New development Re Victory War Medal
« on: March 09, 2010, 20:25 »
Hi Folks,
There has been a new development in my search for the family of Pte A.J. Cocks. This is the person whose name is on the Victory War Medal that I found recently. (1914 -1919)
As you may be aware from my last post on this subject I had managed to find some relations of his who still live in Port Pirie SA.
The chap that was going to take possession of the medal on behalf of the family  (He is the one researching the family history)  has managed to locate the living daughter of Pte A.J.Cocks and she now is 85 years of age and lives in a suburb of Adelaide.
I have just now hung up the phone from speaking to her and she is so excited that I have found her father's medal. She sounds like a lovely lady and I have arranged to meet her on Thursday this week to return the medal to her. She tells me that she goes and watches the Anzac Day march every year so I'm pleased to get it to her before this years march.
Regards and Happy Hunting,
Gemangi

Wonderful outcome Gemangi!  Well done!  Give her a little kiss from all of us. I know I'll be thinking of her holding her Dad's medal close this ANZAC Day. :)

    Cheers

Maybe you could give the medal a polish and maybe restor the ribbon as well gem, I am sure if you approach your local rsl  they will be more than happy with this storey and help in its restoration.   As far as im concearned your a legend.  The reason i add this is maybe one of her family ie a young fella can march with it on anzac day. now wouldnt he or she be very proud, and it would be a fitting result to all of this.

    Kind regards Ray
