Hi Folks, Thought I'd say G'day, new to this site, it seems a lot more friendly than a few detecting sites I've looked at so thought I'd join. Been detecting since I was around 15, now 31 so it's been a while . Main interest (other than Gold) is collecting Cricket buckles, also am a mad collector of bottles.

Hi Irish Good to have you along. I've always found that collecting bottles and metal detecting go well together. I'm also into gem fossicking, and I guess that quite a few forum members would be too. Hope to see some pics of good finds up here before long. Findem

Thanks for the welcome folks, I see a few names on here that also post on the bottle forum so must be a few that share the interests. I also dig for gems and minerals, we get Sapphires, Zircon and Topaz along with a little bit of Gold on the property here.
Will post a few photo's shortly...

A warm welcome Irish I got into metal detecting because of my bottle hunting obsession, a great way to find old mine camps. I found my first untouched Bottle cache when I was 14, my mate Benno and I used to hunt tiger snakes for their skins (tanned and sold them). We stopped by a newly made dam looking for our prey, and we noticed a lot of glass shards on the surface nearby, we ducked home grabbed a couple of spades and unearthed over a 300 pre 2nd world war bottles, like codds and old blown gin bottles. The land owner wasn't too pleased with us and booted us off his property, he continued what we started. I'm sure you have plenty of those stories too. Cheers Bazza
