Not Sovereign but close, a Musketeer XS
« on: July 11, 2009, 08:49 »
Just picked up a very tidy Musketeer XS from a garage sale complete with all the original accessories. Very happy with purchase and can't wait to hit the beach, it will make a great companion for the Sovereign.

Anyone have any tips on this machine?

Cheers,

Pete

Sorry Pete,
Don't know anything about the Musketeers. Hopefully someone on here may be able to.

    Thanks Col,

I don't know how long this one will last in my possession. The Mrs and I hit the beach today and she did well with the XS but its a little heavy for her to use for hours at a time even using the hip mount. It seems 'coil heavy' if there is such a term.

I went over her ground afterwards with the GT and only found only a couple of coins left so it did a good job. Still an impressive detector for the age, it really does well.

For the record it was worked with discrimination mode 'on' and set at the lowest setting, sensitivity less than 1/4 and fixed tracking netted about 15 odd coins off all descriptions. I didn't do much better with the GT further up the beach.

    Cheers,

    Pete

Give the wife the GT, and hip mount the box, she wont know she is holding it. Wish i could get my wife interested in detecting. Both of those detectors are about the same depth wise. There are a lot of people with the old XS that wont part with them, as they go as deep as all the newer ones. The newer ones just have more Bells and Whistles.

    Thanks Hungry,

Thanks for the input on the XS, yes it did a pretty good job for sure. She actually had hip mounted the control box too. I did my every 2nd trip strip-down (on the detectors :)) and carefully noted the differences in shaft weight, control box etc and the main difference is the coil on the XS.

Mrs Beached, yes she is one in a million but I copped a heap of flack over the sore back/arms - nothing dinner out cannot fix.

The coils have a different pin layout, 6 pins on the Sov GT,5 on the XS. I'll try and source a DD coil for the XS before I sell it and see what a difference it makes.

    Cheers,

    Pete
