Cleaning Coins on YouTube
« on: January 18, 2011, 17:49 »
Hello there

This one took over two hours to edit and pretty much all day to upload on YouTube. I hope you enjoy the "How To" on cleaning silvers and coppers.

Please note that I only clean coins that are not valuable (numismatically speaking). They're usually worth only a dollar or two so I would rather have them clean and shiny so I can enjoy the look and feel of them.

Here it is

    Snoopy,

Absolutely loved the video mate. The work you do on those coppers is great, I mean lets be honest no one is really going to get much for something that has been in the ground for almost 100 yrs. So they are just collectables.

In terms of the silvers, I reckon 80% of mine just need a treatment with Bicarb ( I use a wet chux wipe to save the fingers). I now only use CLR on the stained or bad ones and it only seems to work well with the KGVI and Elizabeth silvers. The power pads are great for all and I only use them on the English and KGV silvers and I finish them off with bicarb.

Great video and I'll have to get some of that wax.

Thanks for your comments folks. I appreciate getting feedback on my videos. At first I wasn't sure whether to do it or not coz I've seen some coin cleaning videos on youtube and they get a hammering from people who go on and on about how coins should NEVER be cleaned blah blah blah.... :D

But I have been getting a lot of inquiries about how I clean coins so there....  8)

Next video coming soon is from last weekend's hunt. 'Just got to find a couple of hours spare somewhere - to edit and upload it.

    Cheers
    Snoopy

Hi snoop, I joined a few months back and have been checking out the forums a fair bit but haven't posted much yet.
I started metal detecting late last year, mainly for coins and jewellery. My dad has been prospecting for a few years but only recently got a coin detector so we've been going out together doing parks and sports grounds and are doing pretty well. I've found 3 rings and about 250 coins, 50ish pre decimal, dads found about the same. I go out as much as i can, sometimes at night if i can't get away during the day, I've become quite addicted!  I'm really enjoying reading about everyone's finds and adventures on here and loved your video on cleaning coins. First thing tomorrow I'm going down to get some clr and bicarb!
