It's here
« on: April 14, 2010, 00:01 »
Hey folks,
Today I became the proud owner of my first detector. A ML X-terra 705.
VERY excited.
I put it together and waved it around the small patch of grass beside our patio(2mx7m). It was dark by this time.
Using the factory presets, I found a twisted metal bracket, a 5c coin and an old steel tent peg lying horizontal to the ground about 4-5 inches down.??
That peg gave some strange and conflicting ID numbers.

Might be a while 'till I get out and about though.
The wife is going in for breast cancer surgery on Friday (third instance now).
Life can be cruel sometimes. I don't know where I would be without my Christian faith.

Anyway I'm still excited about our future prospects and prospecting Australia together.

Good luck with the 705 Ian. You'll enjoy it. You have a back light on it too, just for those times at night when you want to go out to play!
The strange numbers you are seeing on iron, are probably what is called wrap around. Think of your discrimination numbers as going in a circle and not a strait line. Iron can read as iron, but also come in on some of the high numbers as well. If you knock out the highest notch, it should help reduce this from occurring.
Good luck with your wife's cancer treatment. Not a fun thing to deal with, but it's beatable. a lady I work with and my mother in law have had a number of bouts with it and won.

Hi Ian

My prayers are with you mate. I don't know what that's like to have your wife go through such an ordeal. Look after her and your family but also remember to look after yourself. What better way to do this than to go out for an hour or so for a swing. Get some fresh air, clear your mind and maybe even find some treasure.

Take care
Snoop

Thanks for the well wishes fellas.
To try and distract her a little I thought we might go to the beach tonight for a little swing and dig.
I tried the back yard this arvo and found a squashed aluminium can 17 cm down with a solid 45.
    17cm! I couldn't believe it!

    Lesson learned - don't bother digging 45s.

Glad to hear that you have your 705 now Ian. Thoughts and prayers will be with the wife for Friday mate .

My time is taken up with a wedding this weekend but I will be in contact and we can get together and give the beach a go here sometime.

    All the best
