the settings I used to find my first gold(x-terra 705)
    mode-prospecting
sensitivity-20-23 depending on ground noise and I can put up with it to have the sensitivity as high as possible.
groundballence-manual adjusting as ground conditions change.
tracking- didn't use it at that time.
iron mask-5(factory preset)and I still need allot of practice to distinguish between ground noise and a week signal, and I also have found that at the 5 level it won't discriminate until you get closer to the target about 20cm
so those are the settings I used
it would be great to hear from anyone who uses different settings with success

That's the sort of news we like to hear first hand.
Congratulations on your find, it gives us X-Terra users inspiration.
What state are you in? No, that's the wrong question. You'll probably say excited.
But you know what I mean.

    Happy Hunting

I would be interested to know at what depth you found it and how many holes you dug before that one.

some more info regarding my find
I live in Melbourne so only an hour and a bit to get to gold areas.
I had been at the spot for about 15mns first find was an English penny 1908 moved on a couple of mtrs got a decent signal dug and found a piece of old copper or bronze don't know but it had a greenish tinge to it so kept on getting bits of that should have been a bit more carefull with the pick so got all that stuff out of the hole and there was no other signal so about a foot away from that hole got a similar signal thought more of that greenish metal and it was so I kept on digging and checking the dirt  and dug more reckon about 30cm down dug some more and this thing virtually jumped out of the hole tried hard not to believe what I was looking at was gold and having never seen it come out of the ground before well what ells could it be,so apparently I went completely white when had it in my hand and I guess no mater how big or small the gold is it's a very very good feelling finding it.

Well done Philip, some people (myself included) are at it for years and don't find anything that big and beautiful. It really is a nice looking nugget and i would say detector paid for, congratulations.

PS Don't sell your first nugget if you can help it.
