« on: April 24, 2010, 07:59 »
hey guys just have a question with the ground balance on the 305.

I'm very new to this detector and having trouble with the ground balance..i have searched youtube, other forums etc. can any one give fairly detailed advice on how to do it?

Am i listening for minimal change of tone?

 cheers

Hi Angrysalmon,

When you ground balance you are trying to even out the ground noise caused by mineralization.

In ground balance mode pump your detector up & down off the ground About 120mm up & to about 25mm to the ground.
As you do this you will notice that as you push toward or away from the ground your detector will sound louder in one direction than the other.

Adjust your ground balance so as the sound is the same & even as possible and stable in both directions.
Your machine is then balanced.

I liken it to tuning a radio that your not receiving the signal too well were the centre point produces the best balance for that station.

Check the GB with your detector fairly often as the ground can change in metres. If the ground gets too noisy your probably out of balance.

Good Luck

Thanks for that it helped so much, i can do it with ease now. Its GB about 9 on my machine so im wondering if a different coil might be better?

I don't think a different coil is going to make any difference.
When you have GB'd put it in tracking mode and it will remain GB'd.
The numbers have little meaning to me, I get numbers las high as 48 or even 72 sometimes. I'ts never as low as 9. We have lousy soil over here with heavy clay.
Read & reread your manuel that's about the best avice I can recommend.
