Jupiter Creek (Adelaide South Oz)
« on: April 26, 2010, 19:02 »
Hi,has anyone had any success at Jupiter creek..?
I have not been there yet but I believe there are high voltage power lines
that run overhead causing interference with PI machines in this area.
So maybe us Exterraists may stand a chance?
Any feedback?
Cheers ;D

Jupiter Creek with a PI generally needs and anti-interference coil. The XTerra is OK there but very noisy due to the mineralisation NOT the power-lines. The lines should not adversely affect a VLF. You will notice how close the soil is in places to Victoria for colour, texture and hot-rocks. Try around the old diggings but they have been really flogged. There are some reasonable pipeclay sites that the VLF should do OK on. The rest is either too deep, too noisy (and you will lose depth as a result). Its a good training ground and will show you how hard it is to use a VLF like the Terra on hot ground. Its a nice place to visit though.

I've been up there too, a couple of weeks after I got my detector, it is a nice place to visit, very interesting around all of the old diggings.  I had an enjoyable day out in the bush.  The old Chapel Hill diggings just up the road are also worth a look, the whole area at both places is pretty scrubby through.  Jupiter Creek has a a walking trail, while Chapel Hill diggings are less developed for tourists.

i too have tried several times at jupiter creek & chappell hill as its only about a
20 min drive from my work basecamp (strathalbyn) but hav'nt been back since
the start of last summer. I thought i found a small bit last time there but after
getting home & having a closer look i'm not convinced its gold. Found at the base
of a burnt out tree stump just under the surface i poped up this find, it looks too
red to be gold, my thaughts are its maybe a bit of copper melted in a bushfire.
Found with an x-terra 70    5 x 10  DD HF coil     rings up at 30/32 pending what
angle its on when you pass it under the coil.

It was found just out of the pic to the right, you can just see the edge of the
      burnt stump in the photo.

           Cheers and HH       RR

Snoopy i've never found a real gold nugget either yet, i'm almost certain its a bit of
melted copper due to the ID  being so high & the redish color but it SURE gave me an
adrenalin rush when i first poped it out & scraped it with my fingernail & saw shiny  lol.
A friend of mine has a small real nugget from W.A.  & it reads 12 on the ID
