Not only steel caps but some have a steel arch support. Take your pinpointer when shopping for shoes.

Another mistake - wearing a wedding ring and then putting gloves on.

I grabbed a handful of dirt and the pointer was saying there was something in my hand, kept looking... and looking till finally there is like one grain of dirt left on my glove and the thing was still beepin! Ha ha ha then i realised i had my ring on! (true story - ask NSC)

    Cheers

Another good one is the "lost" target.

Hey its not in the hole, not in the pile and when I put the detector over it again its gone. :o

You would be surpised how many targets get stuck to the extraction tool ::)

Your not the only one Sosage.
I have made that mistake a few times. In my rush to get out detecting and away from work I have forgotton to change them so and so boots. I buy the el cheepos from Kmart they have no steel.
Another tip. I put my pinpointer inside the side of my boot (elastic sided) to hold it while neeling and working on a hole. This works great when the ground is wet and muddy. Brian.

Don't feel to bad. Heading home after a couple of days detecting in the Triangle (with my ordinary shoes on). Decided to stop and try a little spot I'd had my eye on for a while. Very long grass and looked really "snakey" so I put my gumboots on just to be safe. I had about 10 minutes of extreme frustration with the machine howling and me fiddling with the controls for no effect, until the penny dropped. Steel caps in the gumboots. I looked around to see who was watching, cause there usually is when I do something really stupid. I thought I heard some laughter, but it must have been my imagination. Anyway, back to the car and continued home. To disgusted with myself to do any detecting.
