Silver medallion
« on: August 08, 2010, 15:05 »
Gday,

This medallion is silver - but not stamped that I can see.
Looks old by the staining (in the pic it has been cleaned) but not ancient.
Words say Yeahtan or Teahtan
...does anyone know anything ?
Greek or Roman letters above the Lion ?
thanks

Holy Moly NSC - it looks like an ancient greek coin made into a medallion. If it's the real thing that may be worth a few hundred dollars! With your permission I'd like to post it on the coin forum and see if anyone there can identify it... Lemme know if that's ok.

    Cheers

    Snoopy,

    Yeah sure
    But...funny looking coin
    - the face side is not round, its kind of oval shaped (sticks out in front of his mouth)
    - it is concave ( dishes in) on the lion side and convex (rounded like a hill) on the face side
I've Never seen a coin thats not well pretty flat.

Beautiful thing - congratulations. The concave/convex shape could easily be achieved in a silver coin when turned into a medallion (if it indeed is a coin).

    Hi NSC

I see you already posted this on the coin forum. Hopefully someone will have a response soon (well at least a better response than the one there this morning saying "looks like a jewellery charm")

    Good luck
