24KGP what does it mean
« on: August 24, 2010, 23:04 »
Got a little package in the mail today, it was my nice new shiny Garrett Pro-Pointer I was a bit concerned by the shiney bit so decided I had to go rub it in the dirt somewhere and make it dirty ;D

Went to a local oval downtown for a test run, found a few odds and ends $8.50 in coins and a 1950 6pence, I also found a nice big chunky bracelet with a hallmark 24KGP.

I googled 24KGP and come up with 24 karat Gold-Plated but this thing doesent have a speck of gold on it, to me it looks like highly polished Stainless steel?

Any thoughts??

Cheers Byron

It's seems to mean Gold Plated
but 24 carat gold should be yellow
white gold is an alloy and
I just looked at the net and there is other stuff that is white (silver) and also marked 24kgp
    bit misleading me thinks
if it's gold it will be real heavy

This thing hasnt got the weight in it to be gold and after a bit more searching it seems it may also be 24K platnum plated a bit weird they use the same hallmark??

Anyhow seems I got myself a nice peice of scrap copper nickle alloy worth 10 cents.

Ah well the sixpence cleaned up real nice.
