One of the local chaps here in Dubbo uses one. He loves it. He had the Quattro and upgraded to the E-Trac. He found it a bit too complicated for himself, so traded it in and got the Safari and is pretty wrapped with it. I have played around with it briefly and noticed that it has the same tones as the Explorer. Some have commented on it's slow recovery speed, but I couldn't tell you either way, how fast or slow it is. it does not have a back light either. It's numeric display goes up to 50 as opposed to the Explorer's 31.
So long as you don't swing it at a million miles an hour, I think that it would be a very good detector. It has a very large coil selection as well. What ever will fit on an Explorer or E-Trac, will fit on the Safari.
If you go over to the Safari forum on Findmall and ask the same question, or at least read posts about asking that same question, then you will get some interesting and mixed responses, on what folks think about the Safari. Some like them and some don't.

    Thanks Mick,
have looked at all forums and a bit dismayed by comment's so i thought i would make the first post in our forum
I am looking seriously between Safari and Xterra 705 will buy one or the other in next 2- 4 weeks.
has any one out in forum world have a Safari our Quatro tell me what you think if you have both xterra and Safari/ Quatro .
please let me know your opinion money is not the problem selling house and treassurer has approved the bill to buy ;)
     new detector. :o
My main detecting platform is land based eg  parks ,bush ,side of road , rivers banks, but on holiday beach all day long
Will endeavour to detect for gold at Clermont QLD in future but i all ready have a XT 1700 Minlelab and it is possibly on par with Xterra for just gold i thought with toggle switch 6.5khz & 32khz. and auto ground balance or fixed .And just to let you guys know when you flick the toggle on diffiult soil i could swing above 1" water in the surf and it would still give me a nice loud churp on rings
did also notice the waves gave a little churp but thats ok just swing when thair was none.
:-\ coin hunting ,relic  85%  / beach 10% / gold hunting at this point in time 5% but will most likely use xt 1700
or save for sd gpx ect

    Regards
     Jeffaust68 Happy Digger  ???
PS Will have to change my profile photo went to bundy hit the beach and found my second gold ring mens wedding band 9ct

    Happy digger signing off 8)

    Hi all

New to the forum and just discovered this post.
Have had a Safari for a couple of years,  no complaints,  other than some teething issues when I first bought  it. Right out of the box it used to go into overload on switch-on.  Issue resolved after sending back to Minelab.
I bought it for my wife and set it up for switch on and go, she has not used it a lot but likes the light weight.  I have tested it against my Soverein GT and it will detect any thing that the GT does.  Have not tested the other way around,  I think the GT has the edge, but not absolutely sure !!!!
I know this post is old but thought I would answer in case others are wondering.
In short I am happy with the Safari and would buy the same again,  would suggest buying the optional NMh battery pack as well.  We get about 14 - 16 hours from a charge.

    Pet in Tassie
