What's up with this ring?
« on: October 04, 2009, 14:31 »
I can tell you three things about this ring that I know for a fact:
- It is old
- It is cheap
- It is hand made

Old, because a simple, thin ring like this would have been machine-made in recet times. Also in a deep strata with other old stuff.

But - what's up with the "T" shape hole in it? A fastening provision for something else, or a design feature? Does the "T" mean anything? Interested in your views.

    LazyA - coin ring?? Whazat?

Here's a link on how to make one :

    http://homepage.mac.com/johnhuber/CoinRing/PhotoAlbum20.html

    Here's a video

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=atko80Gy2VU

Best Australian coins to use are pre 1946 florins or for smaller rings ,shilling pieces.
They where very popular with soldiers during WW2,particularly with the Yanks.

Here's a partly finished one made from a florin i found on a WW2 American camp a while back.

    Cheers Meggie....

Folks - some good ideas, thanks. It is a very thin silver ring, no markings. Could be an ear ring but it seems to fit a finger perfectly.

I was having a browse at http://www.findmall.com/read.php?26,1065201  and there's a ring that made me think of your post NME.  A wider band and a cross.  I tend to think it's just an initial of either the person it belonged to or who ever gave it to them. :)
