20 years RAAF (motor mechanic) now Ops Manager for fuel installation company. Liked my time in the RAAF, seen a few places both here and overseas but I like Darwin more and decided to settle in the Top End for awhile.

Hey all just reading a few pages of this thread. Wow we do come from a diverse field.

I myself are a fulltime sales person at Fantastic Furniture in Shepparton. I used to have my own lawn mowing & gardening business before that. I recently hung up my badge from 12 years in the security industry. So I've done a bit of everything, but it all comes back to detecting & panning. Love the hunt.

..That's a good question!...my crusts dried out a few years ago, but back then, I was a carpenter, working in Arnhem Land for 15 years...since then, I've spent a few years (forgotten how many) caring for my aged parents, and now, the crusts are turning to crumbs....must return to the workforce soon, (but I said the same thing this time last year!)

Business Owner/Manager- Refrigeration and Air-Conditioning Mechanic, Electrician, Instrumentation technician, Accredited Solar power system supplier and Installer.

Keeps me very busy, sometimes not enough hours in the day to swing a coil as well.

I for one am in favor of a four day working week...hehehe.

Anyone else agree?

Long weekend to detect every week, can't see a downside there.

I work with young adults with Autism- I like to unwind by listening to coins at the end of the day.
Just been promoted to senior support worker and was nominated for WA support worker of the year award- didn't win but enjoyed the free food and drink at the awards dinner.
I'm also lucky enough to be able to share my hobby with my clients and some of them like detecting- or finding coins anyway.

Interesting thread very diverse range of fields

My working career has been fairly diverse
Started as an Oyster Hatchery Manager (I'm a marine scientist), Professional fisherman, Roadie, 14 years as a set builder/rigger working in the feature film industry and large sporting events, dropped out for a few years (owned a copra plantation in Vanuatu), currently finishing off a Property Valuation qualification.
I have no idea what I'll do next but I'm sure I can fit it around metal detecting!
Lets get our priorities right here!

mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm to many to list ? annoying people i am good at that but it dosnt pay to well

but my fall back is a trades plasterer yukko!!

worked with metal cutting and joining, resort cleaning, welfare worker, tree lopper, brickies labourer, net trading, delivering papers, salesman................bla bla bla work yuk much rather be detecting or fishing or thinking about them

i can do anything that i want too its just the want that sometimes alludes me

seems we have many people from many walks of life thats got to make it fun

I've just applied to do volunteer work, to drive elderly people around..wont be problem for me to get..waiting for police checks on me and all systems will be go.

Hi I have been waiting to write something here as was between jobs
have worked in Irrigation and horticulture and landscaping industry for last 18 years,
landscaping then onto paving contractor
then workshop installation technician installing pumps ,irrigation mainline (PVC ,poly pipe) building and rebuilding centre pivots, gearboxes for travailing irrigators.pipe fabrication welding stick MiG tig poly welding etc. rebuilding house pumps water plaster (eg gerni positive displacement pumps) large flood lifters, submercibles ,wind mills blar blar blar all pumps

....10 years
last 3.1/2 years irrigation sales and design from water source to application sprinkler drip line or pop up sprinkler ,also purchasing officer for same company to many hours bringing work home not good

Quit 3 weeks ago picked up job at local council Parks and Gardens playing in flowers mowing controlling the irrigation etc ,9 day fornight roster day every fortnight ,5 weeks holiday 10 days sick days not that I use them buggars much And money is the same
PS knock off 3:30 / 3:00 Fridays

stress free detecting ticket to detect on all parks and gardens but wait my Boss has a Whites detector
and loves detecting

also knows some old camp late 1800's in local emerald that has had predecies and a Sovereign Suxed from the ground which he has not found time to detect but he said he will show the secret squirrel site so I can meet owner (still kicking nice old fella)
