« on: March 27, 2011, 17:53 »
Hi All,

I though I'd post a this aftermarket product for our X-terra's

Its a Tornado DD coil and its due for release now.

Here is a you tube on it.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OqLOHr398QU

The company is Russian so I "Babelfished" the website for easy translation.

http://babelfish.yahoo.com/translate_url?doit=done&tt=url&intl=1&fr=bf-home&trurl=http%3A%2F%2Fnel-coils.com%2Fproduct_102.html&lp=ru_en&btnTrUrl=Translate

Is that coil a minelab product ? They have  a patent on the Exterra coils. Coiltek wanted to produce  a range of coils for Exterra but were not allowed to because of the patent. The coil looks good, its similar to the coil on the Etrac might get one if they come out. seeya Ned ;D

    Gday

Very sorry to be the bearer of bad news but these coils are unauthorised
Minelab has a current worldwide patent on their Xterra V-Flex technology

    Just perhaps...
If your X-terra breaks down because of this coil then you could kiss any Minelab repairs or warranty goodbye ?

I would like a 15" lightweight coil also but I would like one that is legal.

I have just bought a new 12"x13" DD Nell Tornado Coil for my X-Terra 705 from Russia (Ukraine):
    http://www.nel-coils.com/product_102.html
When I get it, I will test it out and post the results here when I do.
Here is where you can get one:
    http://nel-coils.com/contacts.html

You should wait until I get mine before you order one, and I'll post it here when I do.

I think it can reach depths of around 400mm!

    Can't wait!

If you're looking for cheaper detectors, the US$ is less than the AU$ so you'll get a great deal.
I bought an X-Terra 705 with dual coils from the US for $770AU on ebay.

Still waiting for the coil, but I do have an update.
    It is 7.5khz
    12" x 13" DD Coil
The air test on U-Tube shows it might detect an Australian 50c piece at around 50cm!
In the ground would be a different story though.
Someone in the US bought one and said he waited 2 months for it and gave up thinking he wouldn't get it.
But it arrived after around 2 months, the Ukraine postal system is apparently very slow.
If you need to communicate with anyone from another country, the best place to FREELY translate to and from any other language is:
    http://www.worldlingo.com/en/products_services/worldlingo_translator.html
This site has been very useful!
You just copy and paste it to and from Outlook. If you copy and paste into a web-based email program it may display the Alt-4-digit-number instead of the foreign language symbol, but only after you send it, it could look fine on your screen but they will get it as gobbledygook.
Also if you need to view a website in a different language, install and use Google Chrome and it will translate it for you automatically.

When it arrives and I test it I will post the results in the forum.

These coils are also available for a number of different detectors, go to:
    http://www.nel-coils.com/
Remember to use Google Chrome so it translates it for you.

    Coil Arrived from Russia!

It only took 3 weeks, I think it took longer for the US because the US postal system must be still paranoid about Russia.

    It looks awesome!
The measurements are: 325mm wide x 315mm long.
I haven't got a set of scales so I can't weigh it yet.

Will test it this weekend and post results here.

I admit to being supprised that it arrived.Your a brave man ordering from around russia. The chinese sites can be suspect but i would be happier dealing with them. It makes it hard when any comments on the sellers are in another language. Coil looks ok,i hope it work as well or better than the original.

Just rang minelab about this coil to find out if they know anything about it they did not . i would like one but i think it would be better if it was minelab approved they from an unknown company from overseas. And i think they should have a larger range in frequency and size or a multi frequency coil like the nugget finder DD with a switch to change high and low frequency on coil I'm not if this would make it better i am new at this coin detecting.

    Cheers Lucky tigger

Lync showed us his russian coil at the Bpc. meeting Fri. night. Air test on a 50c showed about half a metre but the ground test will sort out the real depth.I didn't ask if the ID still shows correctly and hann't heard how his weekend tests went.

We went to Wedderburn on the old diggings on Monday Public holiday.
    4 detectors:
    Minelab GPX4500
    Minelab Extreme
    Garrett Gold Stinger
    and my X-Terra 705.
Only the 4500 found 1 piece of gold (Around $40-$50 piece)
The coil went well, but on highly mineralised soil it kept picking up targets everywhere in prospecting mode.
I switched it over to coin mode and the targets were 42-48? right up the top end on the display.
I assume these are hot rocks because I hadn't come across them before.
I kept one of these rocks, I'll take a photo of it and post it here.
I think that if you had this detector as well as a GPX5000, you might be able to use it to tell you where the gold is, then use the GPX5000 to find it.
If you are after a detector for gold prospecting, nothing will beat the GPX5000. It will find pieces of gold worth as little as $5.00, as well as the larger nuggets.

I had to use my detector in Coin and Relic mode and block out the top end numbers for it to work in this area but it would not be as sensitive to smaller pieces in this mode rather than prospecting mode.
Being from Russia and not Australia, it would assume that it would not be designed to suit our highly mineralised soil.
I found a lot of bullet shells, bullet heads and a few bits and pieces.
I think this coil would better suit coin and relic detecting in non-highly mineralised ground.
I did an air test on a can of coke and it showed around 1 meter!
The 50c piece showed at around 400mm. (I did not get the number it displayed)
I will do an air test with all Australian coins and post numbers and air distances.
Can't wait to get it onto the beach! - Very happy with the coil so far.
It also detects things around 2 inches away on the sides of the coil, so if you don't go completely over the target you will still hear it.
    The coil weighs 733 grams.
If you want any other information, or live around Bendigo and want to do your own tests, PM me.

I will not get these coils for anyone, if you want to buy one you need to get it by yourself, I did not know that no-one else besides Minelab is allowed to make X-Terra Coils until after I bought it.

To Minelab: If you would like to see this coil, please PM me. If you can make a coil that will match this one, I will gladly swap it with you for one so you can pull it apart and test it.

Pinpointing still worked although I did not try this out too much.
I will test it later in the week when I do the air test on the coins and let you know.

Lync, ground test would be better but if you are going to air test then leave the coil against the ground and wave the target over the top and measure up.
