X-Terra TID for rings.
« on: April 07, 2011, 19:15 »
Just wanted to know if anyone using X-Terras has put together a chart for ring TID's? The charts that have been posted for coins were really handy.

mate theres too many variables to make a solid chart
a 9k ring can register 4,6,8,10 or higher if its a really big, thick one
so..it depends on the carat, size thickness, overall mass'

I have found 9k mostly around 8 but the last one was 18 ..dont figure !
it was an unusual design (see pic)

General rule is...THe TID gets higher as the carat (gold content) increases
    22k comes in around 28-30

    Amen to NSC.

in my experience, gold rings could very easily go from 6 - 26. I have never dug anything higher than an 18ct so I wouldn't know (oh except the Gold Half Sovereign of course which is 22ct but I found that with the Sovereign GT  ;D

My first gold ring was big and chunky and came in at 26 even though it was only a 9ct ring. The 18ct ring I found came in at 20-22. Too many variables really - purity of gold, size, shape, soil mineralisation, depth....

If I am looking for gold rings I tend to dig the 10-14 signals. If I am feeling lazy i usually only go for anything above 20  :D

Cool. Thanks guys. I just thought that since we have so much focus on the coins it might help to have an idea on where the rings show up.

Hi, i know this is an old topic but i was curious about gold jewelry TID Numbers on my x-terra 705 and came up with the below results. Each reading was with a different piece of jewelry including mostly rings, pendants, bracelets and necklaces.

    375 9kt - 4, 6, 8, 12, 14, 20
    500 12kt - 10
    583 or 585 14kt - 10, 28
    750 18kt - 4

As you can see the numbers aren't very consistent with the Kt. I know the shape and size play a role but most things were the size of a ring. Could anyone tell me if they have found the same thing??

    Cheers

    Hi Max

Silver rings are fairly consistently high tone and TID numbers on the Xterras mate
tiny little silver earrings can be as low as 26 or so but most silver is in the low 40's

With rings my best advice is follow your gut and dig a few iffy pulltab zone signals every hunt
The last 3 Xterra gold rings I have found have been with the new 15" WOT coil but any coil will do it ( DD coils rule but  ;D)
