Well I  uploading the  JRGOLDIE.ptrn pattern  here so you  could  down load and try it but the file  extention JRGOLDIE.mode  was not an  exceptable to the  forum. So you will have to manually setup the  etrac menu config.

I give permission to copy it and hand it around if you like, it but that will mean one more operator out there is now getting the good stuff.

Designed and tested for: Experienced operators ideally to get results.

-shallow  detecting only 150 mm. Not  good for quite beaches.
-Finds 18k higher only.
- Finds  silver items
- finds all OZ predecimals.
- Only  finds 50c and  above $1 $2's

Excludes most rubbish  signals so  the pattern is  almost unnaturally  quite till you hit a   good signal.  RECOMMEND YOU do this to to try  pattern. Some time i have to throw down  a $1 or   $2 to see if  detector is working picking up signals it is lovely and quite.

Recommend you are skilled at:

- Manual sensitivity control.
- Slow sweeps  across rubbishy  ground for target ids
- Can  use two tone  audio (IE the detector beeps it means it is a  good target.)
- Skilled at most etrac settings.
- Skilled at  downloading files into etrac via Etrac Exchange Program.
- skilled at seeing slightly warped coin IDs
- Must use  supplied  etrac  settings initially or it simply will not work well.  IE  select  "deep  on" it will  not work as it will overload with too much threshold nulling from deeper  metal items to be of  use to detecting good targets.

OK  use in good health.

HOW TO  DOWNLOAD  FILE INTO  ETRAC
Download JRGOLDIE.ptrn into your  computer( click on  file at bottom of  post.  JRGOLDIE.ptrn

Download JRGOLDIE.ptrn  into   Etrac  via usb  cable  using  etrac  exchange software As  follows

Start  E-trac Xchange program
Connect powered up  etrac to  usb  cable.
Use top  tab  :"patterns"

I want to "upload pattern to  etrac"
File open  "  find and select JRGOLDIE.ptrn  (Look where you  downloaded it to)
click "open"

Select a  slot and press upload " Slot  "My mode 1-4 Pattern"  EG" My mode 3 pattern"  Note  Use "MY mode 1 -4" not   "pattern"
click "Upload"

ON  the  Etrac select Menu USER MODES

Select press "right arrow"
Arrow  down to stored "MY mode 1-4 "where JRGOLDIE is STORED  As per Example "My mode 3"
Press detect button
Apply  selected mode  "right arrow" for YES

NOW  Modifiy  and  save.
 FULL ETRAC  SETTINGS set them all up initially as follows or this pattern may not work as intended for several reasons.

Sensitivity  "manual"   "1 to 5"  (Auto goes to deep to many threshold nulls IE missed targets)

Audio
Threshold and  volume  your  choice.
Volume gain  "28"
Response  "normal"

Tone ID
No  of tones  "2"  This makes detector beep only on possible good target.
Sounds  "conduct"
Variability  "29"
Limits "30"

EXPERT
Recovery deep  "OFF"  " Must  stay   off in case of  threshold nulls over shadow good  targets."
Recovery Fast  "ON"  suits high rubbish area note less accurate  target ids.)
Trash Density   "high"  Suits high rubbish environments.
Ground   ? you choose  conditions.

Preferences
Shouldn't  effect search  results.

Now  go to menu
USER MODES
SAVE  "right arrow"
Arrow down to preferred my mode 1 to 4  slots,
Press right arrow  again
Press  detect.

I don't  expect  every one to be able to  get the most out of these settings  if  not bail out any simply  load  a mine lab  program.

    Cheers Tony  ;)

    i'm having difficulty uploading the program though, when i select a slot from the drop down menu i.e. My Mode 1 Pattern

    i get an error message telling me :

    Cannot upload the pattern as User Mode 1 does not exist

    any idea's  :-\

    *EDIT* got it sorted, after reading the instruction manual i realised what i was doing wrong, i just saved the default coin program to My Mode 1 which got rid of the horrible X and gave me a thumbnail and the most important part somewhere to save and overwrite the coin program with JR's program

    thanks again

    Darren

    Thanks  for  posting the fix  Banjo.

    Just  as a  general  guidine for all

    You might  need to save a  minelab pattern currently in the  etrac  store/save it into  any of "Etrac MY patterns area".   I seams  with out this the etrac  eXcage program hickups  cause there is empty memory  there.

    hi JR

    been running your goldie program a bit lately, decided to hit the showground today and concentrate on where they have the sideshow, pulled $40.50, 15 x $2, 9 x $1 and 3 x 50c and lots and lots of light globe bases  ;D , i started to suss these out after a while but the coins were throwing some real different numbers at me, did'nt cotton on at first, i was really surpised when i popped my first goldie but after using the Compadre the day before and using just audio i started to dig anything that sounded good

    cheers

    Thanks  for the  up date  Darren

    You have done well recognising the goldies even with the shifted IDs. This is one of the reasons it wasnt recommended  for the newest players but you must have  learnt a lot since  we  last meet  to be getting those hauls.... sweet.

    The  goldie id  shifts was predicted as that program uses FAST RECOVERY  "ON"  The etrac spends less computing time to analize target signals coming in there fore is less accurate. With  less time id spent on IDing targets it fast recovers to scan the next target close by give. Which is  desirable in rubbishy  areas.  That is  why we shouldnt  mask to  close to good signals . Must allow  for the  shift  effect.

    A goldie sound is always sounding a little solid  even a partial beep after a while you will know you hit one in your sleep. Your  experiance level must be aalmost there  by now.   :)

    I  tend  to  only  use the  Goldie pattern  when I  am getting  tired after hours detecting in  mostly the  coins of  beach mine lab modes when hitting rubbishy areas.   If you look at  all the  gold IDs  you will see it masks out 9K gold items and some Sovreigns  Not that I  expect soveriegns on  city beaches,

    Discrimination patterns cut both ways  ok it will find  you more goldies  at the  price of bypassing  platium and  9K rings  etc. But  it cuts out  so  many  junk foil and  tabs  signals  so nice for a change.

    Hi Guys,

    Recently bought a E-Trac and its been fantastic, decided to give the E-Trac Xchange software a go and downloaded the pattern in this post because its perfect for my area, went through the whole set up and after selecting my user mode pattern, the unit turned off, now it just turns on briefly (2 secs) then turns straight off.

    I've tried replacing batteries, removing the coil as suggested in the handbook but still then same.

    In Oz at the moment and its evening, no one to call until the morning, would REALLY appreciate some advise. Will contact Minelab first thing tomorrow. Very worried Has anyone come across this before?

    HI  Sea Hunter

    Sorry  for delay just saw your  post,  and no never saw that problem  before under normal conditions.  No doubt you allready contacted   Minelab and have fixed the problem or have posted it for repairs.?

    If  not  the  first  thing I would try is a   factory reset if you can get it to stay on long enough. Ummm but 2  seconds not long  enough. Note (factory  reset will erase even mine lab programs,  but these  can be re installed from a down load.)  If  you cant find  down loads I will work out  how to copy my  built in  minelab stock patterns coins, beach etc. and get  them  too you.

    If your machine  never  was wet extreme sea salt spray?.  I think  you would  have mentioned this  allready.  My  etrac  shut  down like  that  after being wet.  But  there are several other  factors.

    The problem  still seams to be a power issue.
    I would try different battery pack if possible.

    Is the  battery pack  charging properly? check  connections I think you might be able to tell if they are  charging as the should be  warm to touch(than surounding environment) by half way through the recharge cycle.

    Look in the battery compartment make sure ther is no corriosion on battery terminal springs or battery pack contacts.  Try  dropping in the  battery  pack  several times I  had slight issues  with the contacts not  connecting properly. This  went away in time.
      If there is any corossion  lightly brush  scrape it off then  spray  contacts with electrical contact conditioner, cleaner , lubricant  bought from jaycar maybe  dick smith etc.  This will help keep corriosion from reforming as it shields contacts from air.   Dont use  WD40 as it is oil based and will  form  carbon build up between contacts  where  there is  electrical conduction.  Good  luck  hope this  help  let  us  know what the  fault  was.

    Tony  Jewellery Rescue.

    For those unfamiliar with p51 its summarised as follows;

    Trash density = High
    Ground = Difficult
    Recovery = Fast
    Recovery = Deep
    Response = Pitch Hold
    Sensitivity = Auto -2
    Sounds = Conductive
    Pinpoint = Normal
    Volume Gain = 18
    Variability & Tone Limits = 30
    Discrimination = 'A modified pattern to capture coins and jewelry'

    Blowfly, I'd have to say those settings aren't far off what I use except sensitivity and pinpoint. Its obviously going to come down to what your discriminating out. JRs goldie pattern only accommodates .50c, $1, $2, some heavier gold jewelry and some silver. Much of the deeper predec silver will be excluded. He also mentions using 2 tone and volume gain at a fairly high 28. The high volume gain will amplify the weaker signals. I'm assuming he's done this to recover the deeper goldies which tend to get buried when fields get topsoiled.

    In all I wouldn't say the setting are as dissimilar as they might first appear.

    Hay  Blow  fly  I  openly  encourage questions in fact,  when any of you guys start asking those sorts of  questions you might be ready to try  your own  hand  at    modifing the built in minelab  programs for  maybe specific  targets.   i will  help  where i  can.  Also at some  stage your  experiance  will grow and you  can form  indepentant views to my learning guidlines. I love it  when you guys can  add to my experiance  with your  own adventures and etrac facts. :)

    The  exercise will  help your knowledge  grow  about the etracs in and outs.   Dont worry if you  mod the  mine lab  programs and save them as  your  own, the original  minelab  programs will remain unchanged.

    As  I think I meantioned this  program is what I  use just to have  funn finding  mostly shallow goldies mostly especially when mentally tried listening the the chorus of   muti tone etrac tones in normal modes.  It also saves me digging to much after a  long day detecting looking for some ones jewelery.  I often  stay on the search area and  keep hunting after the  job.  I works  great for many   who are experianced  enough on the  etrac to use it  setup this  way. earlier Notes  should  mention this to  save retyping  them  here.   CR  meationed  volume  I dont use  head  phones so i   crank it up a  bit. I think it causes  potential hearing damage so volume set it to  your individual comfort levels phones or  not.

    SAVing   your own programs  for the mine lab preverences  so you dont have to manually alter the presets for you favotite locations.

    I love the program  (quite) make sure deep is off ( this  is shallow detecting in  messy areas.)  The  program is quite  except  for pesky flattened bottle caps that look like coins .

    Ummm

    After my reply I  realised I didn't  answer you  primary  question "if minelab programs  so good why develop others.?

    Basically the track is customisable fully to each individual as we choose, and most importantly each environment  we might like to use them in.

    There are some custom  programs spaces we  can use to  store our favorite settings.

    But  after using  the track and learning it some what in depth you start to  come full circle and see the  minelab  preset patterns  and a great   start for beginners and remain highly usable by every one in  all the   Oz  conditions I have seen as a base point.   Note: I  do always a quick tweak of the common "master" and  "sensitivity" track settings on the fly at every new location to suit the conditions and also to improve the etracs  abilities  to find specific targets people have lost.

    Most of my patterns as slightly  tweaked/customised patterns based on minelabs original settings take from them what you  want or need.

    JR's goldie settings and pattern are perfect when you're lucky enough to find an 'untouched' site.  I use it like a first $weep.  You can always go back later with less discriminate, deeper settings.
