E TRAC Target ID Guide.
« on: November 28, 2009, 13:35 »
Etrac   Target IDs listing.

The  purpose of this  listing it to try and  give  all etracers  some real life  readings to try and help you  see where  targets  IDS are. Take  some time to look between various gold  and sliver targets to note  how they shift on size and gold  quality etc.

Please  Note  All these  listings are  a  guideline only  conducted  with an approximate  air gap of 100 mm  with the  target  laying  flat (horizontal to the coil).  Note  air  gap is  slightly different readings  to several  soil  and mineral  ground types. Ie hard packed clay to salt water beaches.

Further  note  I also recorded detections of the  target  “edge  on” (vertical, less  surface  area to  detect)  This  dramatically  change the stability of  readings of smaller targets at 100 mm in free air. The targets registered as a beep but target ids where well off the 12.xx line at times I had to swipe coin several times to get a approx  average reading.

The moral of this story is any fluctuating target reading you get maybe a small good target but on edge.  Only experience will help you there.  Try It yourself and   learn.

All readings taken from my collection of finds.  I encourage any one to add to this list and or plot it on an etrac display scale and present it  on forum.

Targets IDs/sounds change with metal alloy content, with size, amount of corrosion, and shape.

    Your welcome people.

There are  several things  we may note as a general rule  from  these figures.

    1.  Lead  tends  to  start in the 11:XX  range a lot

2,  Gold 9K to 18K  varies  from 12:09 to 12:28.  Plus   plated   gold  tends to  drift  to 11:xx.

3 ) Most of the  world  coin s  land on the  11:xx  12:xx  13:xx  lines.

These  figures are a  starting guide only  as you start  detecting your  own  stuff you will see conditions will vary IDs,  With time you  wont need to  carry a  list around you will  remember  where on the display  gold sits through to  every  ring tab in creation lol.

Any  one with  a more  accurate set of in  ground  figures maybe for any particular  target post them  here I  will edit the main list with them and  add your name besides your  figures.

When I get the time I will add  other earier posts Etrac  readings  eg  Balfs  gold half 22K soverign.

    Regards  Tony  JRA

No  Problem  Balf  I promised to  do this   list  some time  back  just  to bit longer than  expected  between other jos that is.

Ok   the  list  has  just  grown  by  back  tracking a few  posts.   ;D

Added  Coin rangers IDs ,  Balf's Gold Soverign. and  some  nuggets from Detrack.

All ID  enteries  not my own  have being acknologded with authers  name.

So  People  keep those  Etrac  IDs  flowing I will add them to the list.

Should  any one not wish their info used there let me know no problem to take it out.

OK  every ones  target ids  have being added to the main list trying yo  keep list compact and real so wont  add  all data.  But I think you agree I  added most of your offerings :)  thank you.

In soil readings are  useful as a  guide to new etracers to see  that there is a quite a  jump between free air and ground  readings.

    Etrac Food  For thought.
My  back  ground  being electronics  it might be worth  noting  that  i am sure you will agree an etrac is calibrated to  certain plus and minus  specifications.

My  point is if your machine is a plus  specification  and  my Machine  ended up with a minus  calibration  our machines will always be a couple of points different to  each others  readings lol even  though they re both with in minelab specifications.

Lots of numbers to think about. Here are some more. Both half and full Sov. are 22k.  91.6% gold and the rest copper. Full weigh around 8gr. and half 4 gr.   Most nuggetts around here if quartz free will show similar no's.   Try leaving your coil on the ground and wave target above it over back.On mineralised ground it often changes the depth over normal air testing.  Rwork

Detailed  and accurate work there  CR Thanks for the  up date.  I agree  with all the figures that I have also previously detected.

I have added most of that list to the main post with  acknologment of you as the  data source.

Definetly like  seeing the values for some of the more uncommon items  eg ten  $10 coin and several  other  items of value not on the  list.

Guys, I am interested to know how much variance you have found on the TID with air tests compared to actual goodies being buried?

    Cheers.

It seems the lower the conductivity number  the less variace, $1 varies much more than a 5cent piece. Thats my findings found $1 coin varies from 35 to 41 conduct and 8 up to 16 ferrous. Sensitivity has alot to do with it the lower the better. seeya Ned

What a great guide and to think all the time I was gonna spend running my coin collection under the coil to see the results.

Answers 2 big questions for me:

    1. Should I dig anything other than 12:43 lol (answer yes for sure but Im already crying at the bottle caps)
    2. Now I finally know what numbers to look for when Im hunting for pink dildos  ;D

    THANKS!

    Hi Jack
Screw bottle caps comes up at 12:39 ish very similar to $2 coins. The guide is mainly for good targets which is what most of us want to know about.

But I get why you ask about other.  Simply scan the junk you find and you will  soon know the reading you want.
