1689 Silver
« on: August 03, 2011, 22:03 »
Went to the local upholsterer a couple days ago and a bloke had a big bag of silver coins out on the table he paid $200 for there were about 5 Crowns a number of 1OZ bullion coins a large American Bullion coin that weighed many Ounces a few round 50 cents and a number of un identified coins.

I managed to get a high Grade 1937 Crown and another silver with a 1689 date on it for $50, Im not sure where it is from but possibly roman???? can any one help with a location and type of coin?

Cheers Byron

It's an English Half Crown from the reign of William & Mary.
I'd love to own one of those.

You got a good bargain there Byron, it's probably worth around $150 in fine condition & up to $600 in very fine.

Any chance you can get anymore?

There are quite a few on Ebay UK.
Here's one in about the same condition as yours & he wants over $800 for it !!!

That's a terrific acquisition there mate. Like Meggie said it looks like it's worth a fair bit more than what you paid for it. I'd say that yours is actually in better condition than the one on ebay. Look at the bottom left quadrant of the reverse of the coin (the one with the harp) - yours is more defined.

    Cheers
