Can't say I've seen this one before, but it looks like a lipstick tube.

     Findem was right
Lournay  was a popular lipstick during WWII,it was produced by Colgate Palmolive. Here's a link to an old newspaper article dated Sept 29 1945.   .http://newspapers.nla.gov.au/ndp/del/article/976803

Jeez Meggie, your "Quick Draw McGraw " on these things, well done. That National Newspaper archive is a bloody good tool, just wish they'd fix the search engine a bit, but it certainly beats the old way of doing things though ( Microfiche Readers and hour upon hour at the Library).....................Balf

Gee it looks like it was made in an ammo factory for deadly lips!  Nice find detrack and a belated welcome to the forum.
Great search link Meggie, thanks! I used it for more info on one of Uncle Bucks queries.
    Cheers!

Yes - that's a lipstick tube, I found one myself last year of the same "Lournay" brand. Not far from where I found some WW2 US army buttons incidentally - those yanks frolicking with Aussie girls in a local bushland, I assume. Mildly disappointing find - it looked far more interesting at first glance. Nice design though, very 40's.
