WOT for Xterra 1st impressions
« on: August 05, 2011, 13:51 »
Gday

I still like the new 15" 7.5khz Coiltek coil
After just 12 hours use (all in turfed parks on shallow modern drops) I some early comments  ???
and I would love any help and to discuss the points with other Xt WOT users  and /or  Coiltek  :D

Pro's :
It sure covers some turf in smart fashion !         which is why I got it as I am a slow coach
Light for size and lovely to swing...glides over the grass
Good pinpointing  ( I use only the zig zag whilst pulling the coil back method)
Nice target pick out ability ...typical of DD coils single centre strip field of detection
Mine locks onto goldies and rings out loudly in no uncertain fashion  ;)
Handles a fairly fast swing with Sens at around 15 to 18

Con's :
Makes the Xt nose heavy and un-balanced
( I put a small easily detachable counter weight behind my elbow into the shaft which works well to balance things out )
Unfortunately ...it hits hard and locks onto all sorts of bottle caps and tops ...sound is a very nice high tone just like silver but is trash.... the  no's are the 40,42,44, 46 on Xt70/705
After digging countless beer tops, screwcaps etc I have disc'ed these out and so I will be now missing any .925 stuff
(I need to do some experimenting with some .925 silver and bottle tops to see if I can distinguish between trash and treasure)
Chattery with falsing when pushed over 20 Sens. (may be better in dry sand and low mineralisation)

So far so good ..money well spent and almost half way to paying itself off  ;D
cheers  :)

Doc sells them for US $329. He sponsors Findmall.
Thanks for some info on this coil NSC. I was somewhat concerned about it not locking onto targets (re Diggers comments/write up). As to steel bottle caps, as is common to DD coils, although they will give a good ID under the centre of the coil, as the toe passes over the target, if it's a steel crown cap or other good sounding iron, it will give a low tone every time. Makes it real easy to figure them out, and fast.
     Mick Evans.
BTW Congrats on the article in GG&T mag. The Cartwheel penny was a great find! I've only ever seen one. They are big coins.

    Hi All.
I have both the nel and the wot coils and they are both as good as each other. I only prefer to us the wot coil for the simple fact it covers a larger area.
    Cheers.

Looked through the coiltek site as I am interested in getting a WOT for my 705. So I start going through the list of distributors, one by one. Seems they don't exist, no one lists them. Was keen to buy one here from oz.
Easy to find one overseas but I know you can't buy a minelab from overseas but does that include coils.
I also saw the post about a Nel? If so can someone give some more info and point me to where they are sold. If I am going to have to buy a 15" coil for the 705 and can't buy here might as well look at other options.
Pretty sad that even when you want to spend your money here in OZ that the sellers here have such poor web sites.
Miners den Sydney and Melbourne web site http://www.minersden.com.au/
for example say its "Our New Site is currently under construction and will be available about the beginning of July 2011." 5 months has passed and have a link to there old site. Then you have http://clermontdetectors.net.au/ "Clermont Detectors Website is currently down for maintenance, please check back later." and it's been like that for a long time. Are sales that good that they don't care about web sales or do they just don't care?

I must say the quality of detecting stores web sites here in OZ leaves a lot to be desired. I would say its not just price that makes so many here buy over seas.
Guess we (MsDigger) and I will have to start our own business. The old saying if you want something done right.............

Took searching this forum to find where to get one.
    http://minersdensa.com.au/xcart-shipping/15-ALL-TERRAIN-X-TERRA-7.5kHz.html
IMO if I was selling a product I would at least only list distributors who actually list them.

I talked with david watters mum about the web site and she said someone is working on it full time but with price changes daily it is proving to be a big job.A phone call to one of the Miners Den shops will get you the current price.

    Hey All,

Yes it was nicknamed the WOT - Wild Orange Thing when it first gathered momentum as an Explorer coil back in 2001.

I wish it wasn't difficult for you to find a dealer stocking the coil Xavier, It is a hard task ensuring all have our products listed and i am sure the shops are doing the best they can do. I see you found it on the Miners Den SA site.

Also, as mentioned, all of our dealers here in Australia have access to our products and are encouraged to hold stock where possible. You can find your nearest one here:
    http://coiltekmanufacturing.com.au/australian-distributors.html

I do hope you buy Australian made and help your local dealers.

Let me know anytime if you require assistance for our products.

I apologise for a blatant plug for Coiltek gear but feel it was needed to help out a fellow prospector! ;)

    Regards,
    Trevor
