i own ace 350, its basic but was a great first machine. no target numbers id etc on it which is why i want new coin machine
i have a whites gmt to use for gold hunting and on ebay now selling minelab to buy a coin/ relic hunter. will hunt old home sites, town ruins etc. i got heaps of ghost towns around my country town and numerous ww2 ruins as well.
so with a budget around 1800 i on the market for new machine.
etrac, dfx or atp pro seem to be in my mind at moment. etrac khz is its biggest attraction, atp has a grunt for bottle tops and is 1k cheaper attracts me. dfx its duel khz and target id i like.

I went with the AT Pro because it was cheaper than most of the other detectors out there that do almost the same thing.

i know that feeling 1k cheaper than etrac. but would kick myself if i made wrong choice, watch a few dozen to a hundred videos over next few days, will give me a good idea.
one spot i not hit is the park benches etc, ace 350 cant handle the caps. so i want to hit those spots but also i got so many ruins to detect and i only detectorist for 200km or more, so its all my area to hunt, i would like to find a cool relic, but what is a cool relic? so far a pocket watch from 120 odd years ago is best relic, but any old relic would be nice? did find a 1920s clothes iron not that long ago which is on my relic table

Jack the AT Gold apparently has issues with salt water due to it's sensitivity. The AT Pro doesn't have any issues but apparently doesn't have the sensitivity on the gold fields as much as the AT gold. If that makes sense? But having not used it or received any information on it I can only go by what I've heard.

    Hi Jack,
I see you refer to the dfx as a possible choice mate go for the the v3i at $1635 from Goldsearch Australia you cannot go wrong. The e-trac is Not Sensitive to small items and v3i once you learn how to program it just blows the E-TRACK away. And Also the wireless headphones are just a dream to use with no cords and no DELAY. On the beach  with salt mode fantastic But you have to be prepared to try many different moves in set up to get the most out of this magical beeeper.

    Regards Beepn.

Ah but notice the logo at the top of the pdf?   I wouldn't say the article is impartial.

I haven't used an Etrac but have had a V3i for the last couple of months (upgrade from an At Pro).   Most detectors are made for one style of detecting, they can do other styles (beach, coins, gold etc) but specialise in only one.  The V3i is so programmable that when you buy one you get a detector that can specialise in many different styles - and is great at them all!.

For example,  last night I started hunting the wet sand of a beach for silver and gold rings using a salt program I customised for that particular beach.  Then I moved onto the grass reserve area to chase $1 & $2 coins - I just selected another program, re-ground balanced and off I went.  Totally different style of detecting where even the tones and id's are different yet I had the same machine.

Do the research.  I personally wouldn't say one detector is better then the other but they are very different machines and you have to choose one that suits your hunting.

    Hi Jack,
I have had a look at these tests which makes a comparison to a exterra 305 to a v3i what a joke.
Minelab makes a good product BUT the TECHNOLOGY THAT WHITES HAS IN THE V3I COLOUR SCREEN IS LEAPS AHEAD.
Now with research and development Minelab just cant pull one off the shelf and start selling it, its back to te drawing board. To come up to  these advancements of WHITES certanly will take time.

Over the years since 1977 i have used many brand names in the water and on land and i can tell you the WHITES V3 IS DEFINETLY THE BEST ALL ROUND DETECTOR I HAVE EVER USED BY FAR.

But Jack its horses for courses its no skin off my nose what ever you buy so i hope you make the right decision .

When MINELAB brings out their colour screen i will be the first to give it a go, but for now the v3 is the ants pants.

    Regards Beepn.

This appears to be true as is the fact that the Gold Bug Pro also can GB salt and handle tough iron mineralisation. I guess we will have to wait and see just how good the AT Gold is in hot ground.
If some of the videos I have seen of this detector are any indication then it is not too flash on hot rocks; On the other hand the AT Gold that will be released here in Australia will not be the same as the Yank version and will have different GB parameters (I think)

Sounds like the testing in Aussie conditions is again proving a difference to that in America. The vids that Garrett have released show how to eliminate the hot & cold rocks. I can't wait to get mine & give it a flogging. Look out goldfields.
