BPC visit Wedderburn
« on: October 01, 2011, 16:41 »
For our September outing the Bendigo prospecting club visit to Wedderburn was timed to be at the same weekend as an engine and steam rally so those members with an interest could visit it as well as hunt for gold and relics. On Saturday 28 members went out with 12 finding gold and Sunday 20 looked and 12 again found gold. Wedderburn is very thrashed and probably the hardest place in the triangle to find gold in a public place. I only found one small piece but still had a good time. Any camp out on the goldfield is enjoyable but this trip we made use of the facilities at Hard Hill reserve. Showers ,toilets etc.

First picture is an unusual speciman.
Second is the only bit i found.
The medallion is fairly old ,pictured straight out of the ground.

Breaking up a noisy rock (hotrock) and the little bit of gold that was within.
The third picture is the host rock most of the gold came out of.
The last picture shows scales at the weigh in and only later did i notice that the settings were on penny weight instead of grams.

    Great stuff, Rwork.

There is nothing better than a group hunt. Nanango was my first & I had a ball!

There are not many places where a large group can detect these days.

Most of us only have small parks etc around us.

You are fortunate with the Goldfields & Smurf is lucky with the 250 acre WW2 site, but generally most of us only have small sites to hunt.

I suppose that is why some of us are a bit tight with information about sites.
