PRODUCT REVIEW: Garrett Pro-pointer
« on: June 24, 2010, 20:25 »
A couple of weeks back I received a few detecting accessories which I promised I'd provide a bit of feedback on so here's the first review. Please keep in mind these are my opinions only and I welcome other views and feedback.

Product: Garrett Pro-Pointer
Category: Pinpointer
Approximate cost: US$127.45

Pros:
- Durable and streamlined
- Easy to use
- Weatherproof
- Vibration and audible target alarm
- Variable proximity based response to target
- Sidescan function
- Functional detection depth
- Detection depth reset when switched on close to target
- Unit on/off response
- On/off switch that can be used in two ways (ie. toggle switch at full depression or pressure switch at half depression)
- Quality holster; and
- LED light for night recovery

Cons:
- No on/off or volume control switch for the audible alarm
- No on/off switch for LED light
- Can at times interfer with the metal detector when in close proximity; and
- LED light ineffective during the day

User Mods:
- Wrap high visibility tape around the unit to prevent loss
- Wrap electrical tape over the speaker to reduce volume on the audible alarm; and
- Tape up the front of the pointer to prevent scratching / wearing

Design Improvements Required:
- Volume control

Other Comments:
Unit sensitivity can be increased by taping a coin near the on/off switch. However detection depth has not been an issue for me.

Rating:
9/10

Hi Coin Ranger ,thanks for the review.I too have just received my Pro-pointer this week and so far i,m very impressed,i wish i had bought one sooner. It's much more solidly made than i expected.

Re the scratching on the point of the pointer,i,m just going to mask off the end inch of it and put a couple of coat's of my coil spray on.

I,ll post a picture when i have done this with a review in a couple of months.

Just a quick tip to those which have a Pro-pointer, if it starts carrying like a pork chop, try replacing the battery first. I thought mine might have to go back for repairs as I kept getting an overload signal. I swapped the batteries and hey presto its working again  8) - big relief.
