It may be a bit tough on hard ground. A fairly narrow flat tip is actually easier on you. Poke around until u feel a "clink" or just keep poking to soften the general area up. The end needs to be a compromise between poking into hard ground and still being able to use a flat end to wedge the coin up. So not to large and not to small either.
