Explorer SE Pro
« on: October 13, 2011, 07:08 »
I've been looking at a few different models to upgrade to. One being the Explorer SE Pro. Trouble is nobody seems to list it in Australia? Does anybody know the reason behind this? thanks

    Hi Buttsy.
The Explorer SE Pro is no longer made -- was replaced by the E trac.
only place you will buy one is in the states, but they will not export to Au.
You can order one thru a minelab dealer who will order it from Minelab who will get it from the states -- cost A$ 1695.
You can get an Etrac for another $100 which is better all round.

     Hi buttsy.
Yes you can buy the SE Pro new in Australia. It's still being made. (At least it was 12 months ago when I phoned up Minelab to find out what the go was with them. If they are still selling in the States, then they are still being made.) Minelab didn't want to have 2 similar top end machines being sold in the Australian market (too small), however, if you want one, you can ring Minelab direct and ask them to purchase one and they will send it out to the dealer of your choice to buy it from. You might want to ring them first and put them in the picture. Most of them are unaware the the Explorer is still being made as it's not on their order forms and they have no formal way to order them, that's why you need to ring Minelab with your order. I've got the SE and it's a very good detector. The tones are great! Not to mention all the other great features of the Explorers.
Good luck with you order and don't be put off by your local dealers ignorance about their availability, Minelab left them in the dark and they will will quite surprised that they are still available.

Thanks for the info Mick. the reason I like the explorer is it seems like a less complicated detector then the etrac. What it has seems to be what I'm after. Decisions decisions.

Buttsy, the Exp II's seem to be selling at a premium at the moment and Rworks offer might be a good one.  Not many seem to come up in Aus for sale.  I've got one coming from a private seller in the States and can't wait.  All of the current coils for the newer Exp and Etracs will fit the Exp II and by all accounts it's a great machine for the deep stuff.

Like the Etrac though, it does have a steep learning curve (so I'm told).

Sambo,  I guess what ever I upgrade too will require a lot of time and patience. I will always have the Ace to fall back on when I'm frustrated. looking through the reviews on the Explorer is crazy. Such extremes from the owners. I'm kinda drawn to it though...

    Hi Buttsy
I have an Explorer 2 and think the world of it.  I've found many hundreds of pre decimal and decimal coins with it.  I use the standard coil for hunting pre decimals and I have a 15in coiltech coil for sucking up the goldies with.  The Explorer 2 is pretty simple to use straight out of the box with the standard settings, you just have to take note of the numbers displayed when you scan a keeper and memorise them, or write them ontop of the detector like I have.  There are also many many settings you can change that will give you betters results, depending on the type of ground your in at the time.
I'm looking at upgrading to an etrac sometime soon and I'd like to keep my Explorer and my Sovereign XS-2 but the boss says no.

One more thing, There is a big difference between the Explorer and the Explorer 2.  The Explorer in digital mode only displays the Ferrous content (or Conductivity - can't remember which) and the Explorer 2 displays both Ferrous and Conductivity of the object, shows in numbers.  I did a lot of detecting with a friend who had an Explorer, and most of the time I was way ahead of him in finds, simply because I had a better idea of the target with the 2 sets of numbers than he did and didn't dig what didn't match my recorded target numbers.

    I hope this helps
    Wayne.
