I Join The Club :D 705
« on: October 17, 2011, 18:57 »
MsDigger and I just ordered the X-Terra 705 from Nth Queensland Miners Den, George was pleasant and great to deal with.
Hoping for delivery Wednesday or Thursday, only $20 reg post and he is going to try squeeze in a plastic sand scoop :D
So I am all ears open to suggestions from other users as to hints and tips. Input on the different coils and opinions on where is best suited to each coil.
Have read the entire section here.
Curious to see how the DD coil goes on the wet sand as they are marketing it to the gold prospector and say it excels in high mineralised ground.
Picked the F4 because i thought with manual GB I could work the wet stuff, and that was a big no.
Plan on getting a dedicated sea machine for the coming summer but hope the 705 will cope better on the beach then the F4, i do live on the Gold Coast after all but only touched the beach a few times this year. The Bounty Hunter is better for the beach lol. As far as a Goldie vacuum i cant fault the F4 and happy to recommend it as a 1st unit.
Also eying of the WOT as I love swinging wide open places, and wonder what it would be like on the beach.

Good luck with the 705 Xavier.
Just a word of caution. The 5x10 Elliptical coil is not water proof, so you might want to keep it away from the water. All the other coils are waterproof.
Being a VLF detector, you'll lose about half your depth in the wet sand. The only detectors that go deep in those situations are the likes of Minelab's BBS and FBS detectors, plus PI machines that are waterproof like the Garrett Infinium.

Cheers Mick, i agree, hence getting a proper water machine soon.
What stopped me enjoying beach was the falsing. Forever trying to find a happy balance between sensitivity and ground balance. Just could never make it happy with manual GB and there is no auto balance on the F4. In fact at times you cant even get it to acknowledge the sand beneath it yet it would chatter at the mineralization.
Bounty hunter was fine as long as you switched it on and off when changing from dry to wet or water.
Again thanks for the input Mick.

Geeezz Xavier, I hope your not going to be as efficient at cleaning up the beach as you are on the parks or there is going to be nothing left for the rest of us!! He he -only kidding, there is plenty of beach for us all. It will be interesting to see how the Xterra goes. There was some thick black sand layers the other week that was giving the Sov and the Explorer problems - there it would be interesting to see other detectors reactions.
Tail-of-dog has a new garrett sea hunter and i am looking forward to seeing it in action on the beach. As we both had owned the Whites DF pi previously we should be able to give some feed back.
    See you on the beach......

Been meaning to meet up with you guys.
Need to be down the beach often and watch the sand and tides. Have been down and herd nothing for 2 hours and had a day where a small cut near Palm beach had coin after coin.
Beach will be pretty safe from me :P, love the old stuff atm and it don't fair to well down therein the salt and sand.
Often walk on the beach and there times at low tide when you see those big runs of rocks and heavy stuff, makes me drool :D
Apart from a few regulars I always see going over the same old ground the coast is huge and there is a lot of beach
I to am keen on seeing Tail-of-dog's finds as I cant see I have ever seen anyone out in the water at all.
Looking forward to having the whole tribe down there soon, MsDigger, my boy and her boys.
Got to train them up then i can just sit back ;D

Xavier, you just sit back. . . No way, you can't help but swing! Had to giggle at that thought. look forward to seeing the new learning curve, maybe now I can get on the beach with the bounty and you with your 705. Got a scoop in the order, but it is more a digger, should have said the sifter type! Oh well.

I attended an auction today but the detectors in the novice end went for too much money. The 5000 raised about 5400 i think.I asked tony from whites dunnolly tonight but he doesn't have anything at the moment.I will ask around at our club,we have 3or 4 different functions in the next month. If you find a bargain grab it,they seem to be in short supply down here.

    Cheers.
    705 update
Few hours under the belt so far. Felt so foreign at 1st, that didn't last long :D
Loving it, great depth and getting the info i was looking at for the predec based stuff at 8"+
Scored a predec spill this morning, was there 5 min and was up $5 in goldies then got a deep highish number. Out popped 3 pennys and 2 six pence same hole. MsDigger was on the way down so waited till she got there to film the next target, a few 1 and 2c later a Half penny. Was only there 15 mins and had to run but lots of targets and easy digging, itching to head back there this afternoon after the sun dips a bit.
Went down to a beachy spot with one of the boys and Msdigger for few dollars on the beach. Young one scored a junk ring, that made
    him very happy.

Big thumbs up to the 705
