Electrical Switch?
« on: October 29, 2011, 20:09 »
Toddled of to another site after the Tot Lot. Found a few pennies, a halfpenny, a couple of Matchbox cars, &  this electrical switch thingy.

It's diameter is 114mm, it is made from porcelain/ceramic???, & is quite heavy.

Could it be a switch off a transformer??

Front reads 600volt, 30 amp

I think it's an insulator, do a google image search for '600v ceramic insulator and you'll see the same kinda thing.

    P.S happy birthday CP

It is a fuse Insulator Basicly it had a fuse wire inside and it fits onto a matching base.

Not 100% sure of where they were used but I assume outside as the whole thing is designed to go together to make a Insulator.

Will post a photo of a complete on in a few days if I remember.

yes it is a fuse carrier of the old fuse wire type. I think it says 30 amp on the front.
You push the carrier in to the fuse base and twist to lock it in. The fuse wire is still
    visible in the centre hole.
Early kitchen stoves had same or similar.
