Silver Umax debut
« on: December 29, 2009, 10:20 »
Finally managed to give my latest Tesoro it's maiden voyage yesterday, albeit for a meagre 30 minutes.
Went to an oval which I knew would produce some loot as I wanted to test the Umax's reaction to goldies.

It's lighter than my Cibola which is really saying something, and balances nicely in the hand. Only two knobs to play with - simplicity at it's best!

Only has the single tone, the sound of which I'll have to get used to. My Cibola has the high end tone, whereas the Umax has the duck-like low tone, kinda ugly and farty;D

Other than that minor gripe it definitely is a Tesoro! Lovely discrimination and spot on pin pointing, although the pin point area is not as 'tight' as on the Cibola.

First coin I dug was a 20c piece - I disc these out usually but a very small percentage seem to be a tad thicker and will sneak under the radar. Then the Umax got it's first $2 coin - signal was bold & strong as per the Cibola - and within 20 minutes I had a further $7 in goldies. I wasn't expecting super depth on this but a 1c piece at 5 inches signalled very strongly. Very impressed. Would have kept going but I had to get home.

For the price (I only paid US$239 new, plus US$40 postage) I think I have a beaut machine which should do well on the parks & ovals.

Looking forward to giving it a proper workout in the new year.

Wait till you get your Cleansweep coil, you will cover a lot more ground and thereby make more finds.
    Thanks Ken

Good luck with the Umax. The cleansweep coil will be a real asset.
