    Golden Genie,

Thanks. It was more like a church market, so not the usual sellers. No worries about the spirit, well aware it is fake now after the highway gold info yesterday. Good lesson and the whole bag of stuff including the REAL gold tooth was $5. My 4yr old pirate loving son now has more bling in his pirates chest :)

    thanks all

    shaun.

Howdy stranger, no it is a fake. Happy with the result as I have nothing invested in it and I learnt something.

Just wish I could get out detecting ... "hey kids, how do you feel about walking around a park in the rain picking up junk on the ground and digging holes?", umm, no thanks dad ... (head back to computer games ...)

;) I will give it more credit, if its from a church market. And hey, even if it turned out gold plated, it still could be an antique, maybe take it in to a jeweller and see what they say. You never know you still might have more than a gold tooth. Which ever way it turns out, still sounds to me, you got a bargain for a fiver. :D

wrong, different alloy gives it a white colour more silver and platinum in it I think there is a nice pic of gold alloys on the web som where i.e. rose gold may have more copper??

Well, im not so wrong alimo.  White gold jewellery IS normally coated in rhodium for a brilliant white colour.

    If you say so pepper
It's just what I read when I research
    No harm done
If that was the case the underlying gold could be any colour because you would only see the coating. I don't see the point in that.
    any who moving on

Dont get me wrong alimo, im with the whole mixed with a white metal to make it white gold.
All im saying is they plate white gold with rhodium. Most white gold will need the coating reapplied every so often to keep it looking nice and white.
I know this cos I just bought my girl a 18k white gold engagement ring.
Dont wanna argue, just saying is all.

Unusual to find jewelery .750 plated because it is soft plate and wears away easily.
Also gold is marked as .750 or 750, not 0750 (may be a non English mark)
An item as large as that would normally be marked in more than one place if it were solid 18K, so look for more stampings.

Are there any other marks alongside the 0750 mark?

I would avoid taking to it with a knife if i were you; Let somebody who knows what they are doing test it because if it is gold then it is worth more than the scrap value to certain people and if it has a knife gouge in it the value will drop

I removed the ex-owners remnants from the tooth (yet another task for the leathern tool) and it weighs 0.9gm. It is probably 14kt so that is 14/24 x .9 x 51.54 = $27.06. Obviously more if 18kt etc. I am hoping it is higher kt as I want to keep it as a sub gram test piece for the gold fields.
