"Weeroona" spoon.
« on: December 25, 2011, 22:37 »
Hey all,

I found an old spoon today with a design saying "Weeroona".
Some reading shows that there was a paddle steamer by that name.

I wonder if it could be from that ship?

Its an Elkington plated item.

 Cheers,
Ash

    ashhash.

The Weeroona was a 'luxury' day-trip steamer of its day it had a dining room so it would have carried crockery and silverware with its crest.

"Weeroona was 310 feet long (95 metres), constructed of steel, weighed 1412 tons and licensed to carry 1900 passengers. Again she was extremely luxurious with spacious promenade decks and impressive lounges and dining rooms."

History can be so interesting, especially if you can hold something in your hand that relates to to a bygone era......

AND you can say " I found that"!

The fun  then comes from  the chase back in time to confirm the find. ;)
