« on: January 19, 2012, 23:24 »
;D   hi all, found these two items on monday night.
a curved brass plate with a knob  ?  in the middle. it,s about  4mm thick with a few nicks in it.  about 50mm long, and  30 mm  wide.  the nut  and  bolt is  about 20 mm long.there is a hole in the upper/head section, and  a tang either  side of the bolt thread  that  limits the nut travel. is brass also. mbe a valve?  cheers   8)

Looks a bit like some of the early powerboard meter fittings. They poked the wire into the slot and held it with the nut.

    (maybe)

    G,day again

    Rwork is on the money

The nut/bolt assembly is called a split-bolt or line-tap and is used to join onto an over head power-line to bring the wires into your house.  They are not used so much these days as we now use a different system in most areas and states.

Pete in Tassie  -- :D   thanks for the reply and interest guys.  it was find in a park near adelaide. i often find bits and pieces in these parks, as if they just bulldozed the old places down and dumped topsoil  and planted some grass and called it a '' park ''.  cheers pete  -  peter  ;)   8)

Brass means Rwork and Pete are right, they would be electrical cable clamps, steel would mean they would be for use in cable for winches, cranes or even fencing.

CHEERS   GF.  sure brass/copper - conductivity, i  never thunked of that.   they would be reasonably old, given the history of the inner city park.  i  believe that the earliest electrical home connections in adelaide were in the 1890,s. cheers   8)
