DFX pin point goes quiet ..?
« on: February 03, 2012, 12:22 »
Hi Guy's,

I have a question regarding the pin point mode of the DFX. While I was out with it the other day I came across a good signal, same as a couple of previous signals that yielded finds worth keeping. On this one when I went from detecting mode to pin point mode I got the usual background hum until I passed over the target area. When it passed over the target area, instead of the usual peak in noise I got absolute silence. Very much like what happens when the signal drops out due to discrimination. The area of this influence seemed to be a diameter of about 130mm What's the story here? Was this a signal overload? I had a bit of a scratch around without locating any target. As this was towards the end of the day I didn't persist with it. Was detecting in preset coin and jewellery mode. What do you reckon?

    Hi OM

It sounds like signal overload on the pinpointing. You can reduce the strength on the pinpointing using DC Sensitivity. From memory I had mine 45-48.

It will overload if there the target is very large and or if there is EMI around.

    Kind Regards

    Oh I forgot to mention,

Lifting the coil up will also determine if the object is either too big and or too close to the coil

Thanks Ecto1. The more I've thought about it, the more it's had me wondering!
