Not a metal detector find ??????

I recently brought some old SA news papers from the 1800's and this was amgost them.  I've got no idea on what it is.

Any help would be much appreciated

Could be a Deed/Agrement between diggers or something with that official looking stamp!!!

Crossed out names could be he left the group, maybe......

Tried googling name Sir James Fitzgerald and came up with a famous new zealand prime minister turns out he was in bath, england in 1835 but as an 17 year old student. Definately an old postal stamp and probably collectible for that alone. Hope this helps.

The "stamp" looks like a free postage frank such as members of parliament used in those days. Later on many governments used overprinted postage stamps, specially printed ones or ones perforated by the initials of government departments. South Australia issued a huge range of these. But that was a long way in the future in 1835 when handstamps were normal.

Apparently (in 1834) Sir James FitzGerald lived in the manor house at Armitage Park, near Lichfield (Staffordshire, England).

Going by the way Southampton is written I reckon the name next to the postmark is Mr Pepper...with possibly another letter on the end.
