There may be a slight misunderstanding with the terminology here if you dont mind me saying ,, a Groat s a Groat , a coin which is in such bad condition is referred to as a  Grot slang word , as is grotty , most grotts I find are Roman with hardly any definition , but could be any coin of any age that is really worn.... hope that helps............

Well son of sands, would love to view your coin collection ! You are lucky enough to be located in a very productive area. Surprisingly the 1800's + coinage ( especially silver ) found tend to be very worn ( been in circulation for a very long time ) and yet the older ones like the hammered coin in your e.g photo tend not to be as worn. maybe the earlier ones were so valuable that they seldom saw the light of day.
But...yes...the are being found !

found this little worn one a while back. only my second one in so many years. But still a really nice find. Best of hunting newcomers....there's plenty more out there to be found.
