I would be very wary of this unit

First phase implementation focussed on the GPX-4500, GPX 4800 and GPX 5000. In addition, the security label has been added to the product carton of all GPX Series detectors.

With this label, products can be easily verified as genuine. For your peace of mind, your nearest Minelab authorised dealer will easily be able to confirm authenticity by inspecting the security label through the special viewer. IT’S THAT SIMPLE!

I just asked the question, if he can clearly show the security label on the box.

Why on earth would you want to buy an GPX5000 when you can get a Garrett ATX for a lot less dollars and it is better on small gold than the 5000 and has excellent deep large nugg detecting ability and can handle our iron mineralisation and is waterproof to 10 foot. and you donot need to purchase a truck load of different coils to get the best results from it or have to match the correct coil to the size of gold you will be searching for and it does not require very very very expensive specialised lithium batteries and you donot have to bother learning how to select the correct pulse delay timings. You will be a successfull gold finder with the ATX with just one coil, the standard DD.

Actually I did read that the ATX does fill a gap that the 5000 cant at the moment...don't remember where though.  Maybe that's why they are bringing out the new mid gold machine, to try and fill this spot that the ATX has over them.  Not so much a deep depth thing but certain sized gold between particular depths not getting a murmur out of the 5000.....I dunno.  I think it has something to do with the way they have set up the discrimination (iron reject) on the 5000's.  Offcourse all second hand  from this end so cant say for certain.

The 5000 has a fine gold setting which wasnt used in a comparison i saw, the second part of the comparison that made me roll my eyes was that it was done by a Garrett employed person, proclaiming to be unbiased.   ::)

Bring one into the triangle and put it up against a 4500 or a 5000, i want to see how it handles the hot ground, because not many machines do.

Getting back to is it fake ,, yes it is a fake 5000 so don't buy it , no serial number on the box ? Fake ..

I've just been looking at them for 1000 bucks from a USA importer who imports the china 5000 ,,  commander coil but wait no minelab sticker , the fonts are slightly thicker on the control box , the color of the control box panels just wrong , and operating feq 7.6 kHz , I did a side by side comparo with the real 5000 , big differences when u look harder ,,

If your going to buy one new buy it from a resisted minelab dealer ,  in fact it goes for all detectors as there are lots of fakes out there ,,, atx will be the next fake to look out for
Second hand stuff is buyer beware ,, be prepared know your info , know what to look for ,

Just my 2cents on the fakes

Thank you i needed a good laugh
"it is better on small gold than the 5000" Classic....................

I see you don't own a 5000 or an ATX or even used one, so how can u comment like this?

As for original posters question, Definite fake stay clear.
Feel free to PM with any serials numbers and I can check them for you.
Every machine that is sold is logged by the dealer with Minelab, so its very easy to transfer warranty's on genuine machines.
If any seller of 2nd hand units cant provided original purchase details and a clear photo of serial number walk away.
Also watch the new batch claiming brand new and the seller is from china, we have noticed a new wave of them hitting eBay.
