SD 2100 ADVICE PLEASE
« on: December 18, 2013, 21:27 »
Have just purchased a s.h. minelab sd 2100 and need some advice from the knowledge  bank of this forum . What sort of noise should this machine make in search mode ? At the moment it makes a constant wooo wooo sound on about a one second cycle . This does not seem to be able to be quietened as the threshold adjustment seems to make no difference . Running the coil over a penny on the lawn nearly blows my head out of the earmuffs so its still seeing metal . And they reckon guns are loud !
Could this all be due to E.M.I. as i am in the middle of town , have had no chance to take it bush yet . I have had no experience with P.I. detectors any advice will be great as i have only a 7 day window in which i can return it .
Thanks in anticipation , curt .

I made  the same mistake as you describe i:e  switched it on in a built up area
Get well outside of town and at least 200 metres from power lines to check it out

Phone lines in town will make a cycling noise. Did yours come with a small screwdriver ? Some had a screw on the back that had to be removed to get to a trimpot adjustment fot tuning powerlines out.

WILLOW
Be careful  BE  VERY CAREFUL  when adjusting the potentiometer [POT]  they
easily damaged. Then it is back to Minelab for repairs.

Been a few years, don't remember if it was a steel driver or plastic. A hard plastic knitting needle flattened on the ends works ok. Whitehunters may not have the adjustment at all.
