X-terra 305 handle length - plus update *price win!*
« on: October 06, 2014, 22:55 »
OK, i ordered a basic metal detector online for a good price, and headed out with my daughter today and although it worked great at our local beach and we came back with a few coins, the one thing that's made me bite the bullet and immediately want to upgrade to something else is that the handle length (even at maximum) really did my lower back in as it's just not lengthy enough for me.
I'm 6ft 1 (185.5cm) and just wondered if anyone my height uses a 305 and reckons the handle length is ok?

Thanks in advance :)

Well, I went into my local Anaconda and thankfully they had one assembled which they got down for me to have a hold of.
The highest setting is nearly there, but I notice that with a bit of DIY there's another good inch to be gained by the look of it (I'm pretty handy)
So I said I'd take one, but is that the best price they could do?
Now normally, what happens next is that I get "sorry, that's the price but we can throw in some AA batteries" or something similar..plus, after doing some research last night I couldn't spot anyone doing it for less than $395...
But she went off to grab a boxed one from out the back, then came back and said "we can do that for $299 for you"
Happy days :)
Plus as a final twist I managed to blag the batteries too :)
Can't wait to have a play with my new toy!

That's a good price for a new 305. I had the reverse problem with length - even with the shorter shaft it was too long for my seven year old. Some careful marking and drilling later, the lower shaft can now go into the upper part and lock in further up and the arm rest is closer to the bend. Happy child, happy parent!

From the relic case
I find it odd that minelab allow  a model to be  sold  at a discount, never mind  25% off. bargain. I wouldn't  think that  dealers  would be over-joyed about it.
the 05  range are dated  now, due  for an up grade I reckon.  the  explorer se 2 is out  for $970 but because it's  discontinued.

I'm not sure she phoned to ask their thoughts on the transaction to be fair! She probably just used her calculator badly?! I'm pretty stoked though, as you can imagine...
:D

I see on TV that Anaconda are announcing a SALE this week, so i was wondering whether this item was maybe due to be included in their sale at that price and that she sold it to me for $299 to save me coming back and giving grief, but currently the 305 is still on their site for $399, so who knows?

I  checked their  site  about  a week  ago and  it  was $399. somebody  had  also bought one there  for $299  a few weeks  before, so dunno what's the go there.   ???

Great buy! I bought one secondhand for my 10yo son and it cost me $280. Not too bad though as the warranty is transferable (his is covered until February 2017). Had a similar problem as Lindt - shaft too long. I thought about buying the junior short shaft but they're the same price as standard shaft so I cut down the existing one. It can still be extended as he grows and I can always buy the longer, standard shaft later if required.

Hi D.  mine  came with a short length as well. so they are a stock part that can be ordered. a minor  home alteration is easy enough, as you say.mbe a piece of abs pipe etc to save cutting the original stem.
