Pigeon rings.
« on: April 19, 2018, 16:47 »
A bloke in Germany is collecting pigeon leg bands and wonders do we have any we can send him. We all find them but the freight would be expensive to send only a couple over.
If we had a central point it might work out ok. Customs may not like leg bones attatched.
Enclosed pictures shows half his collection.    (If i can get it to load)

I used to inform a homing pigeon mob (don't recall which one) and let them know where I found the ring and the number. They then informed the pigeon owner who could then get a clue as to where his bird ended its days.

Hi Rwork Most collectors want everything for nothing and  resell at a far greater price.Win Win for them the best and rarest collection and a roll of notes in their back pockets. IF  this german collector is serious the price  should be $10 each.  IT will cost hell of alot to come here to get any. TP

I've got all the pulltabs that I've picked up over the last 11 years. Surprisingly, its not the huge amount that one would expect....but he's welcome to them.

I've only ever found one "bird" ring. Don't know if it was pigeon related...could of had the leg bone it was on DNA tested I guess, but I chucked it years ago.

come on kg1 let us know around how many pulltabs you've got, I had almost a 10L bucket full but tossed it when we moved.

Yeah, probably around the 10 litre bucket mark.

But you did a hell of a lot of dirt fishing back in the day whereas 99% of mine are from the water.
Way things are going here water wise I might have to take up dirt fishing again....boring!

Tied up tomorrow and taking the boat out on Sunday so I'm stuck on 16 for a few days yet. Who'd have thought....4 months in and only 16!

I  dug a bird  ring   some time back  at Tinaroo dam and I notified  the relevant  gov. authority ~ they advised it was from a Cormorant  and was banded in Tasmania back in the 1960s ~

They wanted me  to send it on  to examine as defining the bird via wear and tear ~

Not so keen  to be posting off to  Germany though ~ But a strange fascination in deed ~
