XP Deus dealing with EM interference
« on: April 26, 2018, 14:12 »
Just wondering if anyone has any tips for dealing with EMI.

I have a spot I ran over with my AT Pro numerous times with zero chatter, but when I went there after getting my Deus it was very difficult to work over.  I could only assume the powerlines nearby were the cause and at the time it didn't really matter what I changed on the remote the chatter was just maddening and I had to stop.

Any ideas you can share would be great!

Use the highest frequency you can, 28 with the HFcoil seems to cut EMI right out as long as it is not from an electric fence I have found. I haven't tried the frequency shift as yet.

A big part of detecting is being in the right place - in your head and at the site.

18kHz on the LF coil is best used with EMI, only gets worst using anything lower.  May also pay to drop the sensitivity a bit or play with the frequency shift.  Size of the coil will also come into play, if you have the smaller 9" coil, give that a try over the 11" or 13x11" coils (bigger antenna = more susceptibility to EMI).

As John mentioned, electric fences are the worst source of EMI that I have come across, never really had much of an issue otherwise in parks etc other than the odd buried powerline.

The Deus is way more usuable around EMI than my former Explorer, that was totally unusable in some locations.

Hi Mate,

The Lads have covered it pretty well really, EMI Comes in different forms so sometimes different tweaks work in different places.

Have to agree that electric fences can be hard work, and really a power line is just a massive electric fence.

I did some detecting under some big lines in Ballarat and the EMI there was pretty bad, I made it as quiet as I could using frequency shift, sensitivity to about 80 from memory and lowest TX Power.
It didn't eliminate it but I could still hear targets pretty well when the deus hit on something.

Starting the machine pointing at the source may also help as when Deus Starts it will choose the quietest audio channel it can find.

Hope some of that helps .

Thanks everyone!  I'll be sure to try these suggestions out at my spot.  I pulled some nice things out of that place with my Pro and I am keen to run it over with the Deus.
