Gold scales weight
« on: April 29, 2018, 14:50 »
Hi all,
Been very quiet for a while. No time and competing obligations have flattened
My out there time.
Anyhow, picked up this weight at a Bendigo garage sale. What I would like someone
to tell me, is the meaning of the small stamps on the reverse.
E 8  VIC,  and P(or F?) 55. Presume it dates pre 1878.
Thanks for any help.
Cheers........outback70

10 penny weights. The triangle will give you the date. Search in Resources for the Mark info

The two groups of ciphers on the back of your weight are either a) Check marks from a government department such as the Inspector of Weights & Measures, or b) a manufacturers mark.

The weight is British and a site which may give you some better insight is English Weights And Measures

I don't have the exact answer for you but the site I've linked to may put you on the right track.

Cheers,
Emu.

I was sorting it out and was told to leave Resources alone. All the other posts were then added.

That is certainly not a good reason to bugger up a valuable and easy to use resource..what can we do to get a sensible resolution to this silly situation Rwork?
