Windows XP....RIP.
« on: June 08, 2018, 11:42 »
Well it finally happened, my faithful 2005 HP with Windows XP has expired:'(, following a short bereavement I have adopted begrudgingly W10 and am now locked in a bad dream of adapting inferior technology;D, the main problem is the fact you cannot individually move photo files in the same folder which as a footy team photographer with 1000's of photo's that have been auto arranged on transfer cannot be reverted back to their initial order, this is chaos and time consuming when retrieving photo's from any folder, According to the W10 Forum a bat. file was made available to download but since the latest updates came out this no longer works, this bat. file disabled 'auto arrange' and made the organizing of files possible as to how you wanted. Apple computers do not have this problem but the cost has been prohibitive so I'm stuck with W10, any solutions from more savvy operators out there?......cheers Colin.

GemQ I don't do the type of editing you probably do but I right click on the photo and open with Microsoft Office Picture Manager if I want to crop, resize, adjust brightness or contrast etc.

A big part of detecting is being in the right place - in your head and at the site.

I’m hearing you mate , My Old PC is running an older version of windows

Agree with GQ , paint has always been my easy go to edit point for photos and word docs.

Actually I had issues with it a few years ago & happened to be in Melbourne so I took it
to Caribbean gardens market & one of the many computer guys fixed it , just a thought but they may be able to re-instal or instal what you need ..?

    Good luck

I do a lot of picture work with XP which is easy but the later windows are a pain to organise. Try to grab 3 pictures and put them together for some reason isn’t easy for me. I guess if you grew up with computors at school it would be straight forward.

I am no computer guru,  I got win 7.  and want nothing to do with  win 10.  Don't understand it, and don't want it.

Shame about your computer! I still run Windows 7 on my main PC (editing / browsing) refuse to upgrade the OS, appears more stable with some of the software I use.

If you have the xp disk you could always format the hard drive on the new computer and install xp on it.>:D
Maybe do a 200 gig partition on the new computer to test it out before reformatting the whole drive.:)

Another good suggestion Abouttostart, XP was installed by a techie to replace Windows Vista, remember that one?, I don't have a disc unfortunately, have not bought a new computer yet, using my laptop at the moment.......cheers Colin.
