Hi Guys, Found this buckle on a 1860 river side house site.  This site was abandoned in 1860 due to a flood and because it's in a very remote area and not recently visited, this site is a time capsule with no post 1860 items on site.  I have found over 200 brass buttons on this site as well, and assume the occupants had to get out out quickly as flood waters were rising and the clothing was covered with mud.  It appears on the buckle that the player is being awarded a cricket belt for his performance and the person awarding the prize is clipping it around the player's waist.

Thanks for the kind comments guys, yes the condition is exceptional the soil on this site is quite "kind" to finds considering they have been in the ground for 160 odd years.  For those interested in cricket buckles see the attached photo of an image showing the extent of the variations in patterns of cricket buckles this image was taken from "The Wisden Book of Cricket Memorabilia" and there is some interesting information on them on pages 244-246.

Thought I'd start this thread to group together all the Cricket Buckles found by Forum members.  They're such a buzz to find, highly collectable and it's rare to get two of the same design.

So whack 'em in here with a nice clear pic and brief description of date and location found  :).

I'll kick off with my one and only - found back in April 2012 in an area surrounding an old Brisbane cricket oval.

Cheers

This cricket buckle I found in the shade of a tree on a B.P.C outing at Irishtown which is near Chewton in early 2011. It appears that it was struck for a match between Americans and Australians as Australia used the Union Jack flag back then. I was told that the local hotels supported the matches and had the buckles made.

Here's the one I found in Gippsland Victoria. I assume that the missing part contained a ball, perhaps in a different coloured metal?
