So the first prize is a 3030 this year - Not a 5000 ?

Shouldn't affect numbers ?

Hoping to get there again - Good place for a catch up

Just booked nearby at Inglewood. 20 minute drive to Wedderburn. No where else available nearby, Charlton which is 20 minute drive is all booked out that long weekend. In Wedderburn, people are on a waiting list for any cancellations at Pioneer, I doubt it though anyone will cancel as they have paid up front for their accomodation.

Anyone else interested in still going and looking for self contained apartments, cabin, motel. nearby???

Well I can tell you that to my supprise that Inglewood Motel and Caravan Park has plenty rooms still available as double rooms for couples at a reasonable fair price. Not for to long though as I spoke to the Manager and have got her to let Wedderburn Pioneer Caravan Park to refer any new people looking to book for the Token hunt.

Get in there quick as they wont last.

Hope to meet a few this year and give the token hunt a go.

Regards Sid

Dave,

Spot on mate, got to camp close to the ground so you can smell the gold and be at one with nature. Then again there is the snoring, farting and the odd scorpian for company :-\.
Dont worry Ray keeps us in line, and beats the sparrows by an hour or so in the morning.  :o

Sid,

Looking forward to catching up mate.

Cheers Gemq,

Finally I get to meet a few people off this Forum.
Have had not much detecting of late, so the wait is soul destroying.

Looking forward also detecting with me brother in law from Maryborough on the public holiday, after the Token hunt. We have hired a GPX5000 for the day.

BTW, are Kmart specials allowed to enter for the Token hunt....8 inch new coil though and super tuned by me.

Just got a new coil and detector shaft for it and found my first coin under the clothes line in a blink of an eye at this new house I am staying.

I will be staying in Inglewood for those that may be there also.
Anyone else?

Sid

I will set up a little caravan on the side of the hill opposite the toilet block. I will put up a blue Eureka flag on top of it and a light at night to attract members and moths. Detrackozi usually parks not far from me. I urge members who are camping to get on site Friday as soon as they can. Everyone has their own preferred spot which might be in the sun for panels or somewhere they don't get blocked in. Plenty of parking but the sites on the North end get dust from the track in.

Wedderburn has its own weather, bucketing rain at Bendigo might only mean distant thunder at the hunt. The temp listed might be correct but rainfall predictions are unreliable. We have been fairly lucky with the actual hunt but the Saturday night presentations are sometimes wet. My little van has a roll out shade which might shelter a couple of swags if needed.

Hi. Looking at going to Wedderburn for the token hunt. Is the on-site camping first in best dressed or do you have to book etc. I can get there Friday arvo is that early enough, What's the go with the hunt is it like Tarnagulla or is it different are the tokens deep or hidden just under the surface? looking forward to the weekend hope to meet some of you.
 Rodeo
Title: Re: Wedderburn Detector token hunt 2014
Post by: Rwork on March 02, 2014, 07:47
Rodeo, the hunt is organized by Robin and helpers. Same person who organized the Tarna hunt. Tokens are usually shallow and probably a steel alloy.Expect far more metal rubbish. Friday arvo is early enough and camp where you can but if setting up near someone, don't move chairs to get to a site.
Often esky's or chairs are left to save a spot for someone that is known and expected. Make sure you don't block any tracks on the hill.
Toilets will be unlocked but may have a bolt on top of the door to stop wind blowing leaves inside.
If you see a bloke walking around taking pictures it will probably be me. I might make a video of the camps late Sat.
100 tokens first thing in the morning, not many left by 11.00 but nobody really knows how many until they post up the token score sheet.
I thought Minelab may have used the hunt to give away one of the new mid range gold units but the prize is expected to be a 3030.
A Bpc ( Bendigo prospecting club) husband and wife team, Mark and Ronda ( Gold prospecting Australia)will be looking after the Junior hunt and supplying the first prize of a new detector.(xterra ? )

Coiltek provide a lot of prizes and will have items for sale at the check in area. If anyone wants a cord or some charging gear they can bring it to the hunt site.

I think if i won the token hunt they would ban me next year.  :D

If only I had bought one of those Rangertell long range detectors , I could tell you guys where the tokens are from queensland .  :o

Do they ever have these hunts up in Queensland ?    Gaz

Post by: MikeSav on March 05, 2014, 19:34
Does anyone know how the tokens are placed in the field for the two days. What I mean is, do they put all the tokens out at the start of the first day, or do they put half out on Saturday and the other half on the Sunday? I am only looking at coming up on the Sunday and would hate to get there and find that all the tokens were already detected!!  :o
Title: Re: Wedderburn Detector token hunt 2014
Post by: junker on March 05, 2014, 20:29
They put them out each morning before the hunt starts , plus any tokens found from previous hunts go into a separate draw .
Title: Re: Wedderburn Detector token hunt 2014
Post by: Rwork on March 05, 2014, 20:40
Sunday is a short day for the comp so the draws can be held and people get back to their home towns.
Some draws Sat night as well.
I mentioned maybe getting banned if i won, that is because i am the only person who has won it twice.  ;D
My son borrowed my car so it looks like i will be in the old blue Hilux tray.

They put a 100 token for each day so if you find old ones for last year you still in for a prize ,,,,,the big draw is Sunday afternoon about 3pm that when you will see me win, so best save you money and stay home  >:( :(

Having you on ,,,come along I am sure you will enjoy it all

See you all up there lookIng forward to the group meet,,,,, stay safe all the best on the drive up or Down or across

Hahaha. Thanks for the clarification mate. It would be great if someone from the forum wins it.

Come to think of it, it would be even better if someone from the forum, with a bald head, who lives in Gisborne, and happens to drive a white prado, wins it!! Lol.

On site around 10.30, perhaps around 30 camps so far. I think maybe less than last year but spread out.
The tokens are basically tin. Steel with a slight gal wash so use very little or no discrimination.Helped a few to set up their machines who couldn't have heard a token.
Camped next to Detrackozi, member rodeo here also.

For most people the Minelab Wedderburn token hunt is over. I still have to process around 500 pictures and send them to the various organisations that are connected to the hunt.
The first prize winner was Wayne Robb from the Adelaide detector club.He won a 3030.
Second prize was a Minelab705 which was won by Ant1967 from our forum.
A lot of the forum members who attended were lucky enough to be taking home prizes. I was presented with the Barry Johnson award for the help i give to the token hunt.

All,

Another great weekend out at the token hunt and the boys have already organised some more saturday night activities for next year ;). Was great to catch up with forum members and well done to Ant on the big win (apologies on the video mate, I think I droppped the camera when I realised it was you). Numerous winners from the forum including Nat who won a nice piece of gold and like every year gold was found on the course. Ray starred of course with the papprazzi shots and still managed to find a token while running other competitions (Well done on the award mate). We want to get a few more at the camp site, not watching foxtel at the nearest hotel (Quack Quack) ???
The pic below is the nugget prize I got for first out the hat for finding a token from past years.

Be warned next year will be bigger than ever so lock it in the diary early.

Nat76 found a penny while hunting for tokens and a little kid in the junior hunt found an old black ramshead shilling.I think he would have been happier with 20 cents.
Just done a walkaround and still at least 20 camps on site.
The dark side was a group of forum members who kept themselves and others amused while the band was playing.  Secret mens business.  :)

To all those undecided, make the effort next year, you won't be dissapointed. First time for me, though not sucessfull in the token department I had a blast. I still ran out of time to catch up with everyone from the Forum, those I did catch up with were all 1st class, a special thankyou to Ray for getting us newbies off to a good start your Award was well deserved. I know what happens on the trip should stay on the trip but some one should tell the story about Lex's large nugget. My advice to future newbies would be to detect slowly after a staple diet of baked beans! next year can't come quick enough.....cheers Colin.

HI Everyone. I got home last night about 2330 hours. I had a great time and I even got one token this year but no prize. It was great to catch up to everyone again this year and to meet some more members. But I have to confess now I'm back home in South Australia after a 1500 k round trip. Lex it was me that was snoring not the bloke the other side of your van. Or did you have stereo?? ;D ;D ;D Anyhow thanks to everyone for helping make it a great weekend. Until next time cheers Brian.

Hi Junker

You ask ? We all got caught up with some unlikely person on Saturday night I think is name was Gladd's if you come across this person best you stay away as he is a very bad Influence, we were put in a spell from the Darkside and was doing things that should not :-[ :-[ :-[

But what a night one of the very best nights held at the Saturday night Entertainment.  Just hope not to much of it come forward or we will be banded from the Forum  ::) ::) ::)

It was good to see that Ray received award for all the hard work he does on the token hunts, giving up is token hunting time to record all that is going on and the countless time spent once the hunt is finished. Thank You Ray

Oh Oh  the bloke on the downside of me that I blamed for the snoring was ringing home and telling whoever was on the other end about the snoring kept saying that it wasn't him ..All was taken in good fun .  It was a bit warm at the end of the day and numbers a bit down but a lot of tokens found.. My best story for the weekend was my bit of a joke really Ray spoke about the young boy who spat the dummy in the kids comp.   Well later on I saw him having a trial run doing a bit of panning and I happened to have a large ( GOLD ) ?? nugget in my pocket so I slipped it into his pan .. A few seconds later he picked it out washes the wet red clay from the (NUGGET) looks at it and said very loudly this is only shit turns around 3 or 4 steps towards the dam and bang my nugget was now in the middle of the dam...I think the worst part was only 2 or three people saw it and the wouldn't know if the (nugget) was real or not.. So in the future if you hear about a 3 or 4 ounce nugget being found in the dam near the  boiler just think of me and how I laughed for the rest of the day..
I hope next year more members turn up it is good to put a face to all the names on the forum...Also good seeing Rwork being recognized for his for his efforts at the event over many years.. ;D   Lex

I was told that at 3 am some of the locals came up from the town as they thought it was the wedderburn chain saw championships, with all the snoring that was going on

i will be camping next year, if i can sort out the air conditioning, the telly, the mini bar, and king sized bed, oh and a chair dont leave home without one lol
as for saturday night and the darkside i think what goes to wedderburn stays at wedderburn otherwise may need to take a soilicitor next year ;D

But some well deserved people had fun, more fun than the last 4 years he told me so, for that alone it was the best prize at the jambouree

The highlights were getting to see the new garret that lex was testing or was it a whites looked like a great machine

I got the real story from Lex over the phone OL 56 ( Colin ) and to those who did not get a look at the original nugget I send in this shot --- and of other stuff ----as I got a look at it before it made it's way over to Wedderburn and yes, I did question it's authenticity but was met by an indignant look so I just let that pass  ::)

I did not get over this year as I had problems with my camper the main one being my gas fridge had clagged so looks like I may have missed a good weekend. Got the fridge going again over the weekend  :)

I see Ray was very busy ( again ) and got a well deserved reward  8)  Cheers , Barney.

First post and the first Detector Jamboree. My seven year old (Sasha) and I had a great time. I managed to avoid the limelight by not finding a token and not getting a ticket drawn for the astonishing range of prizes. Sasha, on the other hand, found a token, won a pan and came second in the 3-7 panning! Already asking about the next time :). I caught up with a few people I knew and met many others. We'll be back.

Now working our way back to Melbourne. Stayed the night in Dunolly, found some lead out the back. Lunch in Maldon and back to work tomorrow :(

Thanks again Ray (who I only now realise is Rwork!) and everyone else.

All the best

Adrian.

Hi Adrian

Make yourself know if you come back next year and glad you both had a good time, if only it was abit cooler.

Maldon is a nice little town and often do a day trip there, make sure you hit the lolly shops before you leave so you can try them all out on the way home :D

I hope next year more members turn up it is good to put a face to all the names on the forum...Also good seeing Rwork being recognized for his for his efforts at the event over many years.. ;D   Lex  " Lex ,  you have a 3030 , why don't you take it for a swim , supposed to be waterproof even if you are not !  ::) "

Had been looking forward to this for ages and I wasn't disappointed! What a great weekend. Congrats to everyone that participated and thanks for making me feel welcome. Your a great bunch of blokes and I felt lucky to know you all from the forum. Well done with your award Ray, it was well earned you do a great job. Your a welcome face on and off the field. I was lucky enough to find one token on Saturday. Was out all day Sunday but missed out. I did However find a 'planted' 1940 Aussie penny which made my morning and a few other fun relics. No prize in the main draw but I won a wee nugget in a quiz comp! Using my phone so will try a pic but prob won't work. Have the week off to do some panning so thanks again. Oh, OL, don't be modest you found an old token. That's not easy!! And trev, did you eat your duck nuts!!! See if they can figure that one out!!

Thanks for the kind words all. Just finished the photo disc and ended up with around 490 after a few had to be deleted.
(darkside team knows what they were)
I only get a small amount of time both mornings as i have the junior hunt on Sat. and the panning Sunday to attend. I try as hard as everyone else and usually end up with 4 for the weekend. This time i only managed 1 but at least i was in the draw with everyone else.
I have sent an email to new member Lindt who's daughter Sasha was in the event as well.
 http://www.goldprospectingaustralia.com.au/page15.htm
I send out the discs to all the Token hunt sponsers ,Minelab,Coiltek,Gold prospecting Australia as well as Wedderburn tourism, a few clubs and the major prize winners. Always at my cost.
See you all and a few new entries next year.

Went to the token hunt and met up with the regulars there. Was only able to snag one token for the weekend which netted me what I always wanted --- another hat !!!! lol
Saturday night saw a few of the darkside boys do the train shuffle across the stage, but a good time had by all. Also the museum was well worth a look.

That last picture is a bit sad, if you look on the shed it says that that motley crew should be on a leash
