rpg stereo headphones
« on: July 08, 2010, 18:10 »
hi all, i have a set of RPG stereo headphones with volume control, problem is, they dont work with my garrett ace 250. they work with a tesoro compadre that i have been using though.

any ideas why this is? the non-volume control RPG headphones work

Maybe stereo verses mono plug?

I wonder if the radip parts headphones are wired wrongly.Get a multi meter and check from the common which is the furtherest away from the point to each of the other terminals. The reading should be roughly the same.If it isnt then keep trying till you work out which is the common. You can then unsolder the wires and refit normally.I think the 4500 head phones are wired strangely as they tell you to wire an external speaker differently to what you would expect.  Rwork

My educated guess is that the ACE is mono and the rpg's are stereo. I had to modify a jack plug so I could use stereo headphones with a mono out Fisher F2

Had a local drop off his Headphones.  Had enough of the standard ones - some one had a go at putting on a replacement but did not work out so well..

I did a quick swap over :-)

Looks better - top quality plug and  a 90 to help reduce strain.

Good idea ! I will have to put a 90 Degree plug on my RPG headphones , the socket on the XTERRA's comes out on the left side of the control box , allways bumping it on my right leg as I am detecting , and sometimes when I put it down it falls over , guess which side it falls on ! causing a broken wire inside the plug , a pair of Koss headphones are the same too from the same cause , have to go to JAYCAR and get two sometime .

I got some top of the line units in and it took about 10 days to get in from Germany...   Just be aware that some of the Jaycar gear is not always tight with specs.
