Items from ATX outing on popular beach after erosion from cyclone ITA.

Good reason to wear protective footwear!

Beach cleaning of the unseen, a free community service provided by a local metal detectorist.

Beaches are usually bare foot areas......the nasty stuff is easily detected using a PI detector.

No need to wait for cleanup Australia day.

In 35 years no one have ever come over to say thank you, to the contrary the activity is often seen as scavenging.

Ivanll, I am always picking up dangerous stuff be it knives, fishing hooks floating around still attached to buried sinkers, a broken bottle necks etc.
I always make a point of showing the lifeguards the dangerous stuff to try and promote the benefits of having beach metal detectorists working  their beat.
But your right no one has ever said thanks.......

The sound of an ATX with an 8" mono coil on sub-gram gold bits ..............Starting at sensitivity setting 6 then 8 and 10, the highest gain possible in this test at this suburban location.

The HD video upload was 64MB, download is heavily compressed to 8.66MB.
Guess there is some interest in viewing as indicated by increasing visitor numbers, many of whom are likely "none" forum members. ;)

There is not many videos showing the 8" coil on you tube .. let alone showing how sensitive it is to gold . Proof that it does pick up sub g gold . I'm sure a few jaws are left open.  The atx is a good machine and very capable.  Still there are going to be doubts. . And I certainly believe the atx is good all round detector . . And it will find gold under a g with just a simple coil change .

Thank you Ivanll  for posting....

Re: Garrett ATX Outings. Reply #60 on: May 11, 2014, 09:18
Appreciate the vid Ivanll, all the yanks care about is the size of the coil and how deep it goes... hard to find anything of substance on youtube, mostly just advertising fluff..

Re: Garrett ATX Outings. Reply #61 on: May 11, 2014, 13:09
Have seen a number of coin/nail test lately, usually as promo for chosen VLF detectors..... but never seen one with a PI unit.....so for a difference and a bit of a lark  .......beyond which it has no practical application.

I see the benefits of the smaller dd coil .. thanks Ivan ..
how does the iron check compare to the std dd atx coil .. looks like the infinium dd is better. .

How did the coil perform Ivan . is it more sensitive than the std atx dd .

It's a very easy/light coil to use with the housing chest mounted, no it's not more sensitive than the std. issued coil, but it will do my 0.1g gold test piece on the ground with GB on at a gain of 8.

Have been looking for one of these 7x3"DD Infinium LS coils at a reasonable price...........found one at GMC Adelaide. :)

It's on its way for a little ATX/Infinium LS project.

Now if the Westcoils were still available and usable on the ATX, especially the ILS 10" DC Mono and Chip Finder, then it might be an occasion to party. :)

Kind of peculiar in that SA is the only state without a Garrett dealer, at least according to the info on the Garrett Importers/Distributors website. ???

Anyone with an interest in the DD coil performance from an Infinium LS on the ATX, might benefit by attending a Garrett day in Cairns.......should it ??? eventuate.

More a game changer by nature!.....than by name.

Garrett replaces original supplide ATX coils with one that have better/tighter coil support so the coil do not drop ...................mighty decent of them.

Your better local dealer should be able/capable of replacing the coil............... it's free of charge!

Made and fitted a new shaft on an ATX DD coil, this coil can now work on both an ATX and an Infinium LS. 8)

Went out yesterday to test new self made ATX/coil shaft setup on both the Infinium LS and ATX, worked like a beauty .............. just like expected.

Total shaft/coil weight 1.5kg on the dot, even had approval from a younger user, it's also 250 gram lighter than a Whites SPP and 2kg lighter than the original ATX setup at 3.5Kg.

Had hoped to share some news on the new ATX coil being tested in WA, did make a request  to see the demo video on Garrett Australia Fbook page, but the post vanished Guess it was to sensitive for us mere consumers and consequently removed.
