X-Terra switches off - help!
« on: April 26, 2014, 07:45 »
Hi there

After a long period of inactivity, I decided to use my xterra 705 yesterday and was rewarded with some relics. However a few times, the machine turned itself off while in use. The batteries are fine. Any idea on what I should do before I send it off to minelab?

Thanks
Snoop

Sorry cant really help other than suggesting a factory reset, checking the terminals for a good connection, trying another set of batteries incase you have one faulty one in the pack.  Can you do a software upgrade on the 705?

This has happened to on occasion, I suspect the batteries are loose inside the 705 and loose contact briefly.  has not happened to me for a couple of battery changes.

What Goodbeard said could be answer, if the battery's are dropped in they compress the contacts causing a weak contact ,I read some where .

I had this happen to me a couple of times early on when I changed to rechargeable batteries but worked fine with ordinary batteries.

I figured that the battery casings may have been slightly shorter than std and I ended up getting a small hook down and pulling up the springs a bit to stretch them which solved the problem also while I was there I cleaned all the contacts as a precaution.

Likewise Snoopy, I could get it to switch off by shaking it, this gave me the clue, changed batteries and problem solved...cheers Colin.

Yeah cool thanks for posting as now I use the Ctx but I gave a mate my 705 other day & he said same thing was happening but I haven't checked it yet.
