Saving Pewter
« on: June 23, 2014, 19:36 »
Just a tip on saving pewter relics like spoons, mugs etc. Items made of pewter, through age tend to crack, chip and flake away. To stop this I use PCA, Wood glue.

Add the wood glue to the area that is cracked and flaky.

Than cover the complete item, and wipe off the excess. The glue will get into all the small cracks and thin layers of pewter and in between and underneath the flaking bits.

It will dry , bonding the flaking pewter and sealing the cracks  It`s not a restoration. It just stops the pewter from detereating any further. The glue dries clear and the item looks and feels the same.

It works for me.  Cheers, Woolshed.
