My 2 bobs worth.
In summer I usually dont go in parks. The only time I do is when there is rain forecast in the next couple of days. Of course that is easier in Tassie than in the drier areas. I dig a 3 sided plug leaving the fourth side attached and try to leave the target in the hole so I dont go damaging the plug. I then probe around in the hole or locate again with the pinpointer and remove the pul erm target that way. I also like to check my diggings after a week or so and usually would have less than 10% fails but of course that is 10% to many in some areas.

My 16 year old Grandson comes on park hunts with me sometimes. We both wear our invisibility cloaks, (bright fluro jackets) and attract no attention. I make a point of arriving at dawn so we get at least half an hour before the walkers arrive. We do slides and areas that are near tracks first. The fluro jackets cover the lesche and screwdriver on our belts. If my tuned pinponter cannot reach a target then i leave it. A lot of times the deeper targets are only screw tops giving the same signal number as goldies.

I hunted a park once in a town north of Perth with no tools just a plastic scoop and pinpointer, whilst  walking back after working the local beach. I was there not more than 2 minutes when I got an ear full from a local woman as she was coming out of church. Now I'm a bit of a gardener so I respect all things green so to speak and leave hardly a trace of where I've been. I reckon if she had a shotgun she would have used it.
I tried to explain, but she wouldn't have a bar of it, as the saying goes, you cant reason with unreasonable people.
