Garret Sea Hunter - falsing
« on: August 25, 2014, 23:38 »
I have bought a new Sea Hunter, first trip out to the beach and testing in the back yard was sweet.  Sirnce I have rigged for Scuba and it has started rhytymic humming pulses every 5 seconds, dissipates then hums again!!  I thought it was the short shaft, so cahnged back and still same problem.

i have tried with Sensitivity and discrimination at both ends of the dial,
Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

most likely picking up electrical interference, my S/H does that in the back yard & on some beaches :'(  & just wait until ya get in some choppy surf :)  it's just part of owning a PI unit - just take some time to learn the good signals & ignore the false ones.
ya didn't have a mobile phone on ya, that also sets em off  ;D .

I agree with Aussie, if I stand still and half a meter of wave moves over the coil you can get that surge through the headphones, the coil field senses up as well as down, never has been a bother, signals come through loud and clear, what do you do if your using Scuba and the phone rings?

Thanks all, looks like EMI.
Might have been a new source as I never noticed it when first tested in the back yard.

Returned to the beach and it behaved.  Yes I looking forward to getting the machine under the water and see
if its the same there.

Well, you learn something everyday.  I took the machine under the waves and I must say, it is very well behaved, and the sound is the right level :).  Lesson for the day is, PI machines are very sensitive to Electrical interference.  Thx to all those for their insight.  Now...... to undertstanding what the thing is telling me.
